I wrote to Shoosmiths Solicitors about their 0870 telephone numbers and pointed out that they cost more to call than normal geographical numbers. I also pointed out that they are a customer of Global Telecom; see client list.

We fully sympathise with the points you raise and are not happy about some of the underlying issues. We entered into an arrangement for 0870 numbers as a means of providing a unified presence and clearly defined single set of numbers for the convenience of our clients and have no wish to be costing our clients more than is necessary. Unfortunately we are still unable to provide a more efficient solution to this problem and have therefore decided at this stage to retain our 0870 numbers. However, we are ensuring our fee earners are aware that they should make their clients aware that the old area codes remain effective in the background should they prefer to use these. As a result of this I have listed below all our area switchboard numbers so that any users of the website can select the number of their choice.
