How can I confirm that a number is right?Looking for an Alternative
If there is a number that you are looking for an alternative to, then I have compiled this guide to help you:
- Many alternatives are found using simple methods such as checking directory enquiries service like BT Phonebook, 192.com and Yell.com.
- Also, search our database for entries pertaining to the company you are seeking an alternative for. It is not uncommon to find that companies have different 08 numbers for the same purpose, and thus the same alternative may work. It is also possible that calls can be dealt with or put through from listed numbers.
- Search the internet. Many numbers are found by searching the internet using search engines like Google, and not by someone who happens to know the number. You can search the internet, some tips are in the Guide to Finding Alternative Numbers.
- Do a search of the forum to see if the company has been discussed before. You might find it useful to tick the Display only one result per thread? immediately above the Search button at the bottom of the Search page.
Posting a Request for help in the forum
You can ask members of our forum to help you. It's like playing detective and therefore clues are imperative. It's particularly useful to know:
Who? What? Where? Why?- Who is the company?
- What is the nature of your call? Customer services, complaints, new business etc.
- Where is the company based? A full address is always useful.
- Why do you want to contact them?
Websites are often useful sources of information, so please post the company's web address. Indeed, if you don't know the physical (postal) address, you'll probably find it on the website.
If an alternative number is suggested, then please post feedback on how you got on with it so we can list it in the database if it works, so as to help others.
Remember that there is no charge for use of our service and that members give their time voluntarily. You can do your bit by letting us know of any alternatives you have which aren't listed, or by confirming those suggested in postings in the forum.
