COST OF CALLING | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
084 / 087 / 09 and 118 Telephone Numbers The cost of calling premium rate numbers starting 084, 087, 09 and 118 from UK consumer landlines and mobiles is made up of two separate parts: Access Charge - This is the portion of the call cost that goes to your telephone provider. This is an amount per minute charged when calling these numbers. Service Charge - This is the remainder of the call cost. This amount is decided by the company you are phoning. They will advise you how much this is. e.g. If your telephone provider's Access Charge is 15p per minute and the number you want to call is advertised as having a Service Charge of 10p per minute, the cost of the call will be 15p + 10p (i.e. 25p) per minute. When a company shows their telephone number they will show the call cost against it in wording similar to this: "Calls cost 10p per minute plus your phone company's access charge." Different charges apply to calls made from payphones or when calling back to the UK whilst roaming overseas. Landline Providers - Access Charge
Mobile Providers - Access Charge
When organisations use 084 and 087 numbers, callers are effectively subsidising the service they are calling through the additional Service Charge added to the call price, which must now be declared. While this is generally fine for chatlines, recorded information lines and entertainment services such as voting on a TV show, here at SAYNOTO0870.COM we feel that it is quite inappropriate for customer service lines, sales lines, government departments, health services and financial services to use these types of number. This site helps you find alternative cheaper numbers to call those businesses and organisations. Simply search on an 084 or 087 number or on a company name to find an inclusive or geographic rate 01, 02 or 03 number or a free 080 number. To get started and find a particular number, please click on the 'Search to find an alternative number' link at the top of the page or click here. * The above information is provided as a guide to assist you in calculating the cost of a telephone call.
