Title: free internet access
Post by shellie may on Aug 19th, 2003 at 5:56pm
I have changed my isp to Virgin.net and substituted their dial up number 0845 to their overseas dial up number of 01483.  I am now enjoying free internet access through my option 3 package with bt.

Are you sure ?? -  :o

I believe BT have a list of non-geographical ISP numbers that they charge for (even on plans such as that) ??

I would check your current phone bill balance to double check.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Daniel.

True, but usually quoted as "before any discounts or call plans are taken into account."  So, in theory if they do charge you, but this number doesn't indicate it, I suppose you could complain.  Then again, where this number is usually advertised may have a disclaimer along those quoted when you call, plus something like "this service is intended to be used as guidane of cost, and not should NOT be realied upon, blah blah".

Also, I wonder if BT's Terms and Conditions excluse "data calls" from any free usuage, 0800 or otherwise, like Videotron/C&W/NTL contraversly did???

The "Call My Bill" service includes calls which are *charged*.  As stated in the recorded announcement this is before discounts.  However, where a call is not charged (BT Together Option 3 etc) nothing is added to the amount given (ie 01/02 numbers aren't attracting 100% discount, but are non-chargable calls - if using BT Together Option 3, or BT Together Option 2 in the evening.)

i thought that i had free internet access before- if your a onetel select customer i.e. all calls go to onetel. 0808 internet is charged at local rate 1pence per minute, I  opted out of onetel by dialing a four figure number to go back to b.t(opting out). then 0808 should have been free but i was still charged for hours of internet access about £36.00 approx that month alone.BE CAREFUL

Any news of whether this worked or not.

I am on Telewest Talk Unlimited and if it does I would get free internet too.  :)

I may be wrong, but I think only BT maintains a list of ISP's, which it excludes from its inclusive calls. ? - Again, I may be wrong.

Hi
I have just stumbled onto this site and it is great. I thought I was the only one getting annoyed about 0845/0870 numbers...especially when you have to navigate through the menu system...which can easily eat up a couple of minutes and often at the end you end up on hold. You can almost hear k-e-r-c-h-i-n-g!

Any way I wonder if any of the members can point me in the right direction. My neighbour wants me to setup a pay-as-you-go internet dial-up account. It is a jungle out there...help. Most seem to say from 1p per minute but I get the feeling that there is a catch.
If any of the members have already done some research then I will appreciate if you would share your thoughts and even recommend.

Many thanks

Vino

I have recently migrated to the OneTel TotalUkCalls pkg. and was ELATED to find this site. As far as I know from the Terms & Conditions, OneTel class ALL calls to 01/02 numbers as free. I use their Anytime package and find them VERY reliable, and I have a few (6) ISP's under my belt. Some I need to retain for website maintenance so I was VERY glad to get their national numbers from this site.
I shall be checking the numbers over the next few days so I will post details of using the ISP Geo numbers.
