You could try 01792 782252 - I'm not sure what department it is.

The main telephone numbers for vehicles and drivers have been disconnected.  :-X

However, Sandco has posted some contact details here for DVLA management.

There is a freephone number you can get the DVLA on. I've not tried it, so I don't know what types of enquiries it can be used for. It is 0800 3898787.

Used  01792  782700  several times in the past two months   -   goes through to the main switchboard.

Sometimes a live operator answers,  other times it's the usual menu  /  push button one, etc.

The 0800 number has now been disconnected. :-X

There is a short message on there so it won't cost them too much when people ring it!

You cannot get put straight through to an operator if you don't have (or don't indicate you have) a touch tone phone. You have to sit through all menu options and say a number after the beep.

The leaflet I have tells me I need to obtain a form from my local office. I've found a geo number for it, yes you guessed it, it's been disconnected. I rang my local office, went all the way through the menus only to be told I need to ring the 0870 for vehicles!  >:(

The offices are open until 20:30, so it is worth waiting until the evening as it's cheaper.

And it is also worth considering this as an example (oh dear, one of many government examples, let alone the commercial world) in your response to the 0fcom consultation...

Title: DVLA - Tax refunds

For anyone wishing to contact the DVLA regarding a refund of excise duty (road tax), the number is 01792 782992.

It appears that the above 0800 is now in service. It calls itself "DVLA Local Office Network Automated Enquiries Service". The number is 0800 389 8787.

Would it be terribly cynical to think that it has been restored to service so that the DVLA can demonstrate its open, friendly approach to callers - even if the number is not publicised, apart from in your excellent website?

Post by PhilH on Apr 7th, 2005 at 11:09am
Hi

For Medical Enquiries, the number DVLA ask you to ring is 0870 600 0301.

Does anyone have an alternative to this please ?

Thanks

Phil

In response to a Freedom of Information Act request from a member of this forum, DVLA provided their geographical (switchboard) number some time ago: 01792 782341.

It's on the database.

Thanks

However, I did try the switchboard number shown in the database  but they then tell you that for Medical Enquiries you need to ring their 0870 600 0301 number.

So, I need a replacement for THAT number.

Phil

Thanks BBB -  I did try the datebase first but that specific no. doesn't come up. I now see there are other DVLA options. Thanks again.

Please make a personal visit to your local Post Office instead because, apart from introducing stealth tax phone numbers for quasi-governmental departments like the DVLA, they're now threatening to close a whole lot more.

Title: DVLA numbers
Post by WestNab on Aug 17th, 2007 at 2:30pm
The following entry didn't work for me:
Unverified Numbers Database
DVLA       0870 8500007             0113 2906027             Leeds Office
DVLA Leeds local office
1st Floor
42 Eastgate
Leeds
LS2 7DQ
I tried with and without the 141 prefix, but both times it rang and then after a while the call ended with 3 x 3 tone sounds.
The confirmed 'Local Offices' number worked fine for me however:
DVLA       0870 8500007             (141) 01792 794200             Local Offices
- I used the 141 prefix. Since I had a general enquiry, any office would do - not sure where I got through to. This time I agreed to take part in survey after my call had finished - but this never happened. Perhaps they have some way of knowing when they're going to get flak - perhaps never taking surveys when you've called through this number?!

Yes, I tried holding for the survey which never happened last week.  When I did speak to them, they couldn't answer the question, one has no proper right of appeal over anything.  I tried emailing them for advice as I wanted a definition in writing, I got a response promising me a reply within 3 days followed by an email saying it has been passed to the "relevant section" and I will receive a reply "in due course"!   I responded saying I had to complete forms urgently to THEIR timetable and, guess what, the same two emails again, which, incidently, refer you to the 0870 numbers if your query is urgent (the one for which I had already used the geo equivalent and they couldn't help!!)  What can one do when it is not just the type of number but the inability of the organisation to do ANYTHING?

I seem to recall a little ditty from about a decade ago, "Things can only get better ......"

That was closely followed by "Education, educaishun, edukayshun."

And then there was, "Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime."

This number no longer works, and neither does 01792 782700.

I have however a fax number for vehicles, that I was given a couple of weeks ago:

fax 01792 783702.

The FOI 01792  782341 number given below still works - many thanks for finding this.

Yes, put  dvla  into the "enter company name here" search box here; -  http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

I have amended some of the entries for DVLA. The main number 01792 782341 has a menu for vehicle and driver enquiries and you can hold for all other enquiries.

Some numbers for local offices are listed as the DVLA only gives the central number 0870 8500007 for them. The direct alternative to this is 01792 794200.

0800 0852333 was verified as "Enquiries" but has been discontinued.
