Title: Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
Post by mad_cash_cow on Jun 10th, 2004 at 9:41pm
>:(

I need a disclosure from this government agency to allow me to work with children. Not only do they charge a £33 fee for this, every single number on the website is 0870 and I can't find an online application.

This is scandalous!!!

Does anyone know a geographic number for the bureau??

Thanks,

Very Cross Cow

Any chance of you supplying the 0870 number you have tried?

One number I have found for them is 020 7411 5560 - it may help.

Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try. The Disclosure Application line is 0870 9090844, if that's any help. There a several more 0870 numbers on the website for various other functions.

Mr Carver, I thought I had taken care of you in Tomorrow Never Dies!

The Liverpool number is a cover. You don't really think that we would trust the Scousers with the Criminal Records Bureau, do you?

Title: CRB Disputes number?
Post by derrick on Apr 4th, 2008 at 10:25am
There are 3 numbers in the database, but I cannot find one for  "Disputes". Number I have is 0870 9090778, whilst the other numbers have opening hours of 8-8 Mon-Fri, and 10-5 Sat, the disputes is only Mon- Fri 9-5.30; -

Disputes 0870 90 90 778 (9.00am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday, closed Saturday)
CRB Disputes Team
PO Box 165
Liverpool
L69 3JD

As they have different opening hours I assume they will not transfer.

Numbers for Criminal Records Bureau are shown here in this post which is a FOI reply. I have added these to the database.

Title: CRB Freephone number
Post by derrick on Jul 8th, 2011 at 9:11am
There is this freephone number for the CRB in the unverified database, 0800 0181259, this is answered by a human as NACRO, when I asked if they had anything to do with the CRB I was told, “yes we can deal with CRB queries”, my query was efficiently dealt with, so this number can be confirmed, although I did not ask if they could transfer between departments, but if they could not answer the query I see no reason why they would not.

NACRO is a charity. The Criminal Records Bureau is an agency of the Home Office.

NACRO is one of a number of organisations who act as agents for the CRB.

Rather than being an alternative number, as would be commonly understood, the 0800 offers an alternative source for at least some information. The difference may be of no consequence to many callers.

Yep you are correct, I have just called them and asked hypothetically could they put me through to disputes at CRB, turns out they can't, but they seem to be very knowledgeable and may be useful as a first port of call.

The next step is to persuade CRB to get rid of their silly and expensive (to them as well as callers) 0870 number.

Ofcom is intending to close down the range totally - the BBC did very well by swapping all of its 0870's for the equivalent 0370's so as to mitigate the inconvenience of a number change.

Following yours and SilentCallsVictim's postings, I've removed this 0800 number which was simply listed under "Criminal Records Bureau". Clearly we can't be directing people to an another body which would just add to its call load.

As it happens, we have alternatives for CRB's numbers; see reply #7 above for a link to a FOI response which gives the alternatives.

Just wanted to let you know that the CRB has been called the Disclosure and Barring Service for a while now.

Or DBS for short:

https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview

It merged with another service.

They presently still continue to use the 0870 contact number.  :(

I've updated the entries to reflect today's name.

Who on earth thinks these names up?  ::)

"Criminal Records Bureau" was self-explanatory — it did what it said on the tin.

Oh Dave, tell me about it

frankly it's an excuse for them to make more money from us the general public..

I think it will take time for the new name to be remembered....
