Title: Call18866 - Free UK calls - 1p connection Fee ???
Post by Forum Admin on Sep 1st, 2004 at 9:30pm
I'm waiting for official notification from Call18866, but it appears that they are following the pricing of 1899.

At the moment if you make a UK call, you get the message 'This call is free of charge', and you are just charged a 1 penny connection fee.

PLEASE WAIT FOR OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION BEFORE RELYING ON THIS INFORMATION.

Thanks
Daniel

I'm getting the same message on my 18866 calls this morning and, checking the online 'Last Calls' list, they are, indeed, £0.0099 each, regardless of length (although my longest call so far has only been 7½ minutes).

The bad news is that the 7½ minute call dropped out and I had to redial - another 1p connection!

Because there are other reports of call dropouts on http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Telephone;action=display;num=1094057416 I reported the dropout as a fault to 18866 via their website.

Update.  Used 18866 for a 41½ minute UK ‘01’ call this evening without dropout - so it probably was just a ‘glitch’ this morning.

There's now a message on the 18866 website confirming the new UK tariff.

I think the Birmingham nos are free but that could be using  aBT no. as opposed to Telewest. Anybody on cable and/or BT to test this?

:(  Unfortunately, it has been confirmed - see http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Telephone;action=display;num=1095238466

Those using 18866 from cable landlines (i.e. using the special 0808 170 77 88 freephone number for access) are back on the ½p per minute rate.  http://www.call18866.co.uk/mobilerates.php

Apparently, it's because 18866 need to finance the cost of providing the 0808 170 77 88 number.

Those using 18866 as a prefix from BT landlines are not affected and are still on the flat rate of 1p (connection) for a call of any length, at any time to any UK '01' or '02' number.
