Title: Problem with Virgin / alternative ISP
Post by IanS on Sep 6th, 2004 at 1:56pm
I joined One.Tel recently and subscribed to their unlimited geographic number call package.  ;D

Thought voice was great, but things got even better when I discovered this site. Using it, I chose a new ISP; one that offered "pay-as-you-go" internet access, i.e. they get paid via a "rake off" on your call charges - in my case a slice of £0.00!  ;D ;D

Things were, for a time, almost too good to be true! In the last week however, the 01483 number refuses to answer so it looks like Virgin have rumbled and taken action.  >:(

I've tried to find alternatives using this site, but all of the ISP's I've tried either charge for the account, or are asking for credit card details during sign up - does this suggest that ISP's will no longer charge by taking a proportion of the 0845 / 0870 call charges, and will instead debit the card directly based upon my use of their service?

Anybody got some advice for the truly tight-fisted? ???

And if you'd looked in our Alternative Numbers listing under BT, you'd have found that we've also known about it for ages as well !!   ::)

It works fine still thanks but the point was that Virgin's dial up is no longer working.   :-X

Does anyone have any idea what Virgin's new one is please !!

If you are happy with ringing an 0845 number then you can give this one a try
http://morecall.2u.co.uk/dial_up_internet_access/

I don't use it because I have BB. Free email account. You can use from any phone.

Found the probable reason for the Virgin problem (no it doesn't come in a little foil packet !!)   :-/

News details about NTL taking over Virgin.net and another about Virgin.net up for sale a few months before.

All is becoming clear  . . . .  Housekeeping !!  ;D
