Does anyone know the geographic numbers for student accommodation at Murano Street (numbers start 0870 142xxxx)?

It might help if you could tell us who provides the phone service.
Apparently, 0870 142 belongs to Energis, and they only have two ranges of geographical numbers in Glasgow: 0141 626 0141 627 Try these, and if they work please let us know and also add them to the database! |

Thanks for the tip. I tried both suggestions without success. (I have also tried 0141 945 and 0141 946 as they are the landline numbers for the payphones in the buildings.)
The company which apparently runs the telephone service is Masterpoint. |

There isn't much about Masterpoint on the web, only this:
http://www.interquartz.co.uk/case_study_3.html http://www.masterpoint.co.uk/partners.php They do say: Quote:
Cable & Wireless have 13 numbers in Glasgow: 0141 160 * 0141 232 0141 246 * 0141 300 0141 302-309 inclusive 0141 314 0141 446 * * these codes were only allocated in September 2004. I think it's a brand new system, but even so this seems too recent. BT have very many more, but if you're desperate you can find them here: http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/search/Phones/oftel_cl_sab_141.html Of course, it could use voice over IP, but they do seem to specialise in old-style exchanges. Also, what number does the caller-ID give (or 1471) when you call someone? Is it a 0141 code or something else? In Southampton, it was found to give a Winchester code, and this lead straight to the numbers! |

Just for the record I tried all the non-BT allocations, and a number of BT's too. I then made a request under the Freedom of Information Act and was told that the underlying numbers cannot be dialled from outside the University.
Apparently Masterpoint are going to introduce a geographic number alternative - but at a cost. This information might assist those who are obviously having similar problems with other University accommodation. >:( |

And why not? Closed User Group? Or do they think that one can not dial them? Sorry, think may be too strong and positive a word. If the former possibly anti-competitive to callers etc, if the second then we are faced with the usual convenient ignorance >:( |

I think this is the same situation as with Swansea University. After long and tireless research (and dialling), I can only conclude that it is the 01792 62 code that is registered to "Torch Communications" but can't be dialled from outside.

Don't BT and Kingston have an obligation to allow all numbers in the UK to be dialled from their lines?
I often think about this when considering the Leicester Uni halls numbers (which is 0116 005 - a "national dialling only" number). |

For Murano Street, your number SHOULD be:
0141-582-EXTENSION |

OK but in that case do you know the Swansea number prefix as well? |

Just tried the suggestion - unfortunately it is "unobtainable". Therefore if it is the right number, it is one which cannot be dialled from the BT network >:( |

Well, i'm in Cheviot and it works fine on my extension, and all others I have tried (Moorfoot and Sidlaw included). Calls have been tried from an Orange mobile. In reference to Smasher I cannot divulge my sources as to how I managed to find out the number pool. I am protecting the privacy of a friend. |
