This university is also using 0870 numbers for their halls. The number I have been using for contacting a friend is 0870 015****. The lines are owned by ntl. When you dial 1471 you get the number 0115 910 0150 (which is a Nottingham number) . This number is constantly engaged. Any ideas?

If it is not actually engaged with calls then does that not contravene the CLI rules - where displayed numbers (or via 1471) must be working numbers and not "falsely" marked as busy?

Interestingly, this is the same 0870 number that is used at the University of Leicester. The geographical number here is 0116 005 xxxx, which is a "national dialling only" number. I can call these numbers successfully from NTL lines, but not from BT.

At Nottingham University, the geographical NTL number is 0115 005 xxxx, but the presentation number is different: 0870 122 xxxx.

Try these two (or if you like, give me a number and I'll try from an NTL line).


In the meantime, NTL have 7 Lincoln numbers you can try:

01522 00
01522 80
01522 82
01522 83
01522 85
01522 87
01522 88

although, once again, if it's the first number you will probably only be able to call it from NTL lines. Let us know if you have success with any of these.

Perhaps we are looking for a Nottingham number.  :-/

Southampton University uses Winchester numbers, and that uses a NTL 0870 and geo numbers. Southampton's numbers are not national dialling only ones.
