Hello,  Having spent two hours on the phone to Apple Support (an 0870 number) with a technician who was way over his head with my Operating System problem and who failed to correct it, I estimate the cost to me of this phone call was around £6.00 but will not know the exact amount until my phone bill arrives.  I am incensed by the ubiquitous use of 0870 and 0845 numbers and always do what I can to circumvent them often without success.  Is there anyone out there who has found a non 0870 number for Apple Support?  Thank you.

Was this within a warranty period? If so, it is disgraceful and you should write to head office and complain about the fact that the technician couldn't help. They should refund the money. You can also mention the fact that the support number should be free for customers who are under warranty - in the USA, I notice it's an 800 (free) number.

If it isn't under warranty, it's still quite bad that he couldn't help. However, £3 an hour is a very low rate for a computer technician, so you should be glad it isn't an 09 number at >50p/min.

thanks for your reply.  Yes my computer is still under warranty and yes it is disgraceful that I or indeed anyone has to pay for support via an 0870 number.  I do intend to write and complain and demand a refund - just as soon as my phone bill arrives.
