http://www.publictechnology.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=2386&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 More government rip-off, this time the Land Registry. Incidentally this information, and much more, is available free of charge to anyone with web access in my county here in the US. Only in the UK would this scam take place. Note the number for technical support. >>> The Land Registry has launched its first public internet service - www.landregisteronline.gov.uk following a successful trial. Land Register Online gives easy access to details of more than 19 million properties in England and Wales. At £2 per use, it should be a massive revenue generator, and offer a cheap and unique service which users will be happy to pay for. [...] David Lammy, Constitutional Affairs Minister, congratulated Land Registry on the launch saying: "For some years, Land Registry has provided an online service for conveyancers or property professionals. In the true spirit of its vision, Land Registry has now added to this by designing an online service for anyone to use - all that is required is access to the internet and a credit card." Land Registry's extensive records include the title register (showing legal ownership, rights or interests and mortgages) and a title plan (showing the land owned) for each registered property. On most registrations made since April 2000 the price paid is also recorded. [...] Each individual download costs £2.00 payable with a credit or debit card. Property price information is only available if a property was purchased or registered since April 2000. A property enquiry can be made daily between 7am and midnight Monday-Saturday. Telephone support is available to users on 0870 010 318. |
