Or even a working postcode - the Royal Mail site denying the code's existence in their database. ???

Is there a website? The address doesn't give a street or area.

S97 looks like the area bulk business postcode, like Liverpool's L69 for L2 or Manchester's M60 for M2. So there may be no close area. Grrr.

This might help:

Please add the working numbers to the site for verification and use. :)

???
Thanking you for all your help BUT . . .
Tanllan it is even stranger than that.

My loan used to be with the SLC but because I have a mortgage type loan it, and presumably thousands of others, was offloaded to this company.  It is not even mentioned in the SLC site.

I am in the process of sending a letter and asking for that info by mentioning the Information Act

According to Companies House, that address is actually c/o SPV MANAGEMENT LIMITED. It's possible to find geographical numbers for them, but I doubt that's where your call would normally be taken. Most likely the call centre is provided by a third party.

Thanks jrawle for that info.

I did think that it was just a place for them to register the co.  But what a way to go to keep everything secret!

I will send the letter and ask for the info under the info act.

;)

Am I right in thinking that this is a private company and not a government office? If so, will the FOI Act apply?

???Er, I think this company is doing the work of the former SLC which is a private co.  But I thought that the FoI applied to private cos too.  Maybe I am wrong.  Do you know for sure?

I have also posted a suggestion to start a FoI forum.

HSL is actually owned by the Next Group of companies (yes - the clothes shop!).

That's what I was told when I asked what the hell was going on when HSL had happily set up a direct debit on my account without asking me.

I did not think that they could do that!!!!

My advice is to send by recorded delivery letter any correspondence with the companies concerned - SLC or HSL.

I have had major problems with them over deferment - SLC has said OK and not given the info to HSL.

By the way,  they say that the 0870 no is "charged at the national rate" and "why do you want to know our physical address anyway?"

Talk about FoI Act???

You are aware that if you formally request it, the Royal Mail are legally obliged to inform you of the street address that a Selectapost or PO Box address is related to? All you need to do is write to Business Services at Royal Mail.

As for setting up a direct debit on my account, HSL are firmly sticking to the section of my Original SLC contract which states that they can transfer rights to whoever they want. Whether or not the direct debit is strictly legal or not is questionable, needless to say, I cancelled it before they had chance to use it.

:D
Thanks for that info Hazzanet!  I will contact the Royal Mail.

Honours Student Loans phoned me and told me that there was no way HSL were giving me their address and geo telephone no.

I asked them to put that in writing - no way, I have told you by phone and that is enough, was the reply.

Different story if they want money from you as we all know!!!

As a regular member I would have expected better.  ::)

The request has nothing to do with student loans and there is an equivalent for that number in the database, as well as some other Royal Mail ones.

Write to their head office by registered letter. That will get their attention.
