Title: Jamster
Post by redmuffin on Feb 7th, 2005 at 5:36pm
My daughter reeceived an unsolicited ring tone from this company who deducted £7 from her credit.  Virgin have given us 0870 121 7397 as their helpline.  This keeps you holding for 5 minutes and then cuts you off!  Virgin are aware of this and have promised to find me a new number but  I have been waiting a week now.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Thanks for that great advice and useful website.  I got through to Jamster on a number I found on there and they are refunding my daughter's money.
Much appreciated.

The issue you had with the ringtone is of course a case of rip off Britain, however you mentioned that you had to call an 0870 number to complain, and the purpose of this site is to guide customers to calling a geographical alternative.

All you found was another rip off number to call, and the cost of the call was probably nearly equal to the cost of the ringtone, and of course the money you're expecting to claim.

A good idea would be to complain about the cost of 0870 calls, and add this to the amount you're claiming.  Remember Jamster ringtones are getting a cut of the cost of the 0870 call!!

I think they rely on the fact that we really haven't got time to complain about a relatively small amount although I agree that it is an absolute rip off.  I am just trying to prevent it happening again.

Well let us that have got time complain for you!

The atttude that it only a relatively small amount of money is what these guys exist on.

If you haven't got time to write and complain about it - Talk about it, discuss it with your friends.

It is an ideal opening gambit in the pub at lunchtime - Hey did you here the one about - (In this case jamsters, very heavily promoted on TV at the moment)

Pity I quite like the frog on the motorbike!

If she got the ringtone and was charged for it, I bet she text for it and is too frightened to admit it !!

The Mail on Sunday were running a campaign against the ringtone problems kids were facing. The journalist responsible told me the Call Centre for the whole of Europe was in Berlin. The number he got from them was 0870 123 3185.
