Title: Another Convert Post by juby on Feb 10th, 2005 at 2:29pm
Got the following from Able Label Ltd today.
Dear Thank you for your email. When we introduced our 0870 numbers many years ago we were told that it would cost customers the same as if they had telephoned our 01604 numbers. We would never have introduced 0870 numbers if we thought customers would have to pay more. Indeed, this is why we rejected the option of having an 0871 number. However, we have been following recent press reports with interest because the telecommunications market has become so competitive it seems that most (if not all) call providers now exclude 08 numbers from their discount schemes - even 0845 numbers are excluded which are supposed to offer customers "local" tarifs. We are currently looking into how quickly we can change everything back to our 01604 numbers. It will take many months to update all of our sales literature, letterheads etc. and especially our newspaper adverts because it costs so much to make even the smallest changes we may have to leave the newspaper ads until there are other changes to be made at the same time. In the meantime, it won't cost you any more to order on-line at www.able-labels.co.uk or you can ring us on 01604 810781 or fax us on 01604 811251. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write to us with your comments. I hope you will reconsider your decision of not doing business with us. Yours sincerely, Phillip Dickenson Director |

Thanks Juby
It's nice to see that our crusade is bearing fruit at last. I regularly ask companies why they use 0870 and explain that they have been mis-sold them by the Telecoms company who are making a fortune out of them and us, the detremental effect it has on the customer, etc. A lot of them are quite surprised and I hope they go away enlightened and do something about it like Able Label. The Able Label entry we have in the database is those you have mentioned above so we were ahead of the game. Keep up the good work ;D |

Well done juby. Useful e-mail reply to quote at others!
By the sound of things, they'll make every effort to update their website (which, at the time of posting, still shows the 0870 numbers at its head) within a few days. P.S. I wonder if PhillipD ickenson approved his name being changed by the software to Phillip thingyenson? [Now been corrected - Admin] |

Thanks for your replies, I also wondered about that the adulteration of Mr Dickenson's name, I was worried that he would see it and raise merry hell!
I have tried three times to correct the post, which was OK on the original and the preview? I'm baffled? There is undoubedly some skulldugery going on, I clearly typed Phillip Dickenson, checked it and came back three times. It clearly said Dickenson. ??? I do not think that is very funny chaps - who ever you are. |

No, it wasn't skullduggery of any sort juby - it was the prudish (American?) software replacing what it thought was a rude word.
Pity the poor people with the forename Richard in the States! |

Sorry, I should have known.
Reminds me of the time I tried to tell a joke on another forum. The joke is rather good but by the time the software had finished with it! "........ but you threw the wrong bl--dy b-tch out of the window!" Regards, j |

Phillip,
Congratulations on looking at reverting back to your geographic number :D, like many others on here I go out of my way not to call 0870 or 0845 numbers, as I get 1000 local/national minutes for £5.90 (0.59pence/min) and 0870s cost me 8p Do your labels ever run out, the bag always appear to be well stocked :D? I’ve had mine so long (9th year) the glue is starting to go off! I’ll have to order some more on 01604 810781 number (still on the back of my labels), or just noticed, and even better on-line. Regards David |

Perhaps a "Good Guys" list on the website would be productive?
If businesses see their competitors appearing on that list, it may incentivise them to mend their ways, especially if journalists start using it positively. |
