Why do I have to log on with password everytime I come to this forum.

Login screen says stayed logged on for 1440 mins, or stay logged on. I have ticked "Stay logged on".

It is a bore...................

But surely if you leave the site and then return later, unless you hold the window with the site open for the duration, this is inevitable with any logged in site?

No, it's not.

I can return to any of the other forums of which I am a member (e.g. MSE) after days or even weeks and cookies log me back in as the page opens.

For some reason, this site's different.

Hi,

In the last upgrade to the forum software, a new feature called 'Session Verification' was introduced.

This is basically a security protection which matches a user's username to the IP address they are using when they login.

If your ISP allocates you a dynamic IP address (a different one each time you access the internet), the forum software will ask you to login again.

There is a fix being made to resolve this, but I am currently looking at replacing the current forum software anyway, so hopefully this will not be an issue (either way) for much longer.

I must say that I have found the log-in on this forum to be very efficient and reliable. I have had problems with some other forums which are not configured seamlessly because I use a secure browser and do not accept cookies except from trusted sites.

I hope that any changes which you make will not impair this functionality, since it is excellent at present.
