When we moved my mother across to a metered water supply I had to write to Untied Utilities to seek a proper closing bill for the unmetered supply, billing interval details and so on, and I also asked them for a normal geographic number now that so many people were tied to a supplier that classed 084 and 087 numbers as Premium Rate (thank you, kk, for the pointer).

This afternoon an Untied Utilities employee telephoned to answer the various queries (and failed) and then went on to state that they "had no other numbers" and that they "only used the 0845 number."

And the 01925 43 00 05 showing in their CLI?   :D

Nice one.  So much for the, "We only have 0845 numbers" ploy.

When I telephoned United Utilities last week, I used 01925 234 000 (Warrington), in place of the advertised number - 0845 746 1100.  The total length of the call was 31 minutes 32 seconds;  25 minutes 30 seconds of which was listening to the usual  automated message and music.  

The 01925 number used was routed to India, New Delhi; which illustrates that all numbers, including geographical, can be routed in any way.  

The call cost me 2p using Call18866.com, if I had telephoned the 0845 number provided, the call would have cost 96p.

Exactly. I am waiting for their written response and then I will send my copy page from the BT website and ask again for the geographic number. I know that "we" have it, but it should be open as Ofcom suggest...

So we have not quite won - yet.
