All libraries in Stockport now have a central 0845 number. Does anyone have any idea of its geographical equivalent? Already paying council tax for this service and don't see why I should pay extra to call them!

Suggest you go back into the library get an old phone book,or Municipal Guide and see what the numbers were before, and see if they work now.Often the numbers still exist they just piggy back the non geographic no,s on the back of them.Why on earth they want to give out an 0845 no, when a normal landline will do beats me.After all the majority of the calls will come from 0161 numbers which is a local call anyway.Write and ask them what there game is wasteing the publics money.Probaly getting a share of the revenue!!!

Nonetheless some assistance with the 084 number used, the previous numbers, site addresses (physical and URL) all help:
1 by giving basic information to searchers
2 by saving us researching and coming up with old numbers that you already knew did not work - very frustrating...

Stockport Library was 01614744540.  I dont know if this still applies.

No its a central number for 6 or 7 libraries
