Title: Argos Ring & Reserve 0870 line

The site lists +353 12161616 as the non-geo alternative but dialling this invokes BT's "incorrect" message.

Any answers please ( and what does the '+' mean ?)

In the context used, and from the UK, the  "+" must mean  "01"  .  So is the number 013..... ?  but this would make the total number > 11

nope - 353 is the country code for the Republic of Ireland and the + is the indication to use one's country's access to international dialling.
Here in the UK it is 00.

So 00 353 etc , but via 18866 of course...

+ is used to denote you must dial your countries code to make international calls.  In the UK and the EU this is 00.

You will notice on your mobile when ever you text some one it will be sent / received in the international format ie) +4479...... 44 being the code for the UK.

If you travel abroad a lot and take your mobile, it is advised all you numbers in your phone book are in this format, they still work fine when using your mobile in the UK too, and you won't be charged any differently.

Surely you would pay the international rate to ireland for the "00353" code prefix??  If so, isn't this probably more than phoning the 0870? ???

Have a look in 1899.co.uk and 18866.co.uk and let us know how you get on.   :)

But I don't use those providers so how's that going to help?

I won't use them till they use a safe and secure way to pay, such as direct debit, or individual bill payment.

If you don't want to use them then that is your choice.  I've been using 18866 and 1899 for over 15 months without problem.

If you want to pay 8 pence per minute for the 0870 number then go ahead, I'd rather pay the 1 pence per minute using 1899 and the +353 number.

Use Ratebuster instead then - 1p a minute to call a ROI (00 353) number.

That may be a better service for those wary of CCC.  Though I don't like those type of telephone services unless I know the call is going to get answered immediately, as I don't like having to pay for the call whilst I am dialling the destination number and then whilst it is ringing.
