Title: The Labour Party's 0870 Post by Dave on Apr 19th, 2005 at 7:29pm
As we all know, the Labour Party have been happy to allow the likes of the DVLA to use 0870 numbers which generate some £1.1m/year.
Today's Party Election Broadcast by the Labour Party talks about keeping the NHS free at the point of use (there's another area which uses 084/087), it ends by giving Labour's own covert premium rate number; 08705 900 200. A check of the contact page on Labour's website shows that they say "Calls are charged at the national rate". |

I noticed that too, unbelievable!
Have sent them an email (Re 0870 numbers.)Hi, Perhaps you should consult the Central Office of Information on the use of such numbers? When you have done that perhaps you would not impose them on the general public? Particularly those who you wish to vote for you!!! The mind boggles! It is a matter of fact that a TSO has already stated that it is considering a legal prosecution in the case of a company who declared that "The numbers were charged at the national rate". Good bye, juby |

Quote from joining the labour party, "Alternatively you can call us on 08705 900 200 between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday."
I see they are even making sure that nobody slips through on a 'cheap' call. juby |

Are you unaware that we pay their salaries and they are there to serve us? |

cos its in a special section in the telephone book on a grey page with the words "restricted" written above.
I do belive that comes under the Official Secrets Act. |

I didn't realise it was for number 10 you were referring to. The 0870 quoted by Dave was their campaign h/q and it was this that I couldn't understand why it would come under official secrets act and if it did why they couldn't use a 0845 ngn instead.
I understand number 10 coming under the act. I actually emailed them back in middle of April over this and made a point of the fact that the other parties' don't use 0870 but instead use geographicals. I even pointed out that they are making money from us calling them. Surprise, surprise though I didn't receive an email back but wasn't expecting to as I know what labour are like. |

you dont tend to get an answer from the general info@new.labour.org.uk as this is answered by volunteers who then forward it to someone else who then forwards it again, etc etc
Its normally better to get a named contact and then email name in the format firstname_lastname@new.labour.org.uk - the MP's dont have labour emails. |

Someone said "Its normally better to get a named contact and then email name in the format firstname_lastname@new.labour.org.uk - the MP's dont have labour emails."
Don't forget you can contact your MP for free at www.writetothem.com. This will also get you though to your MEP, District and County Councillors. |

dont forget that MP's will only respond to you if you live in their constituency.
MP's emails are in the format surname[first letter of first name]@parliament.uk |
