I dont know anyone that does 0208!!! But if its any help to you, BT Business, offer a product called REMOTE CALL FORWARDING which enables you to have an 0208 no (or any other geographical code of your choice). They translate it into the number you want to answer at. Its a seamless service. It use to be used a lot by plumbers etc who only run a small office but wanted to appear to be a bigger business.A lot of users switched to 0800,buts its still available!!! The last time i checked it cost £5O to set up,£106 quarterly line rental, and you pay for the diverted calls. |

BT Residential offers the same divert (but you can only divert from a 'phone connected to the line to be diverted - or else you need the RCF described above) and this is available as one of the Star or Select services.
Will this help? |

No it doesn't help because with all these geographic number diversion services you have to pay extra for the forwarded leg of the call and also for the existence of the diversion service too Whereas call diversion on 0845 or 0870 is free to the recipient with the additional diversion cost being paid by the caller. That is why many small businesses prefer to use 0845 and 0870 numbers in a situation where they regularly need to divert calls. The biggest scam is that if you need to divert calls on a BT line you can only use BT as the carrier and not any of the 100 or so carriers that you might use via indirect prefix code access or CPS registration on a BT line. |

Shouldn't that be an '020' number or at least '020 8xxx xxxx'?

BexTech, You are a man after my own heart since as one who deals with the meaning of number patterns professionally for a living I get really angry at all the unthinking idiots who talk about 0207 and 0208 numbers as though 0171 and 0181 were simply changed to these two codes rather than a more fundamental reamalgamation of inner london and outer london dialling codes having taken place. Of course Ofcom/OFTEL have not helped at all by making that change several years ago but only now finally being about to release London number blocks starting 020 3xxx xxxx in a few months time. As far as I can tell those 020 3xxx xxxx numbers can be in either inner or outer London. BT do not help with constant references to numbers in the format 0207 and 0208 in a variety of their own marketing material. But then a high level of intelligence never was a pre-requisite for a job in the BT marketing department! |

It may come as a surprise to all the anti BT contingent, but yes BT does offer a service similar to this called "Call Director" it will give you a virtual number and it can be any regional number (Leeds, Glasgow etc) and have the advanced functionality offered on 0800/0845 and 0870. In relation to call charges it will be similar to that offered by setting up a Freephone number, (to the called party). In depth reports and a WWW control interface are all available if required. |
