Hope someone can help me. I have got totally fed up of being ripped off with the 0870 6060060 numbers and very slow automatic responses and am delighted to report that 01604 614012 works (so does 01604 234234)
My question though, and I may be being paranoid, is "What number does my PDQ machine dial when a customer pays for goods with a credit card"? All the machine says is "contacting Barclaycard". I admit the call lasts less than sixty seconds but am I being charged 10p for the call? 5p ? 25p ? It might not seem much to you but we are a small business being charged a fortune for the "privilage" of accepting cards as it is. Barclaycard themselves can't/won't tell me (they gave me an 0870 number for "technicla services" LOL) Any thoughts? |

If an 01604 number was dialled, then you will be charged at geographical rates according to your provider; it's as simple as that. There is no way that specific 01/02 numbers can be charged at higher rates, whether they be operated by greedy companies like Barclays or not. |

Call me cynical but that sort of non-reply makes me suspect it's at least an 0870 number. Do you have itemised phone bills on that line so you can check? |

I run a PDQ machine, but on the Streamline system, which is Natwest.
I have yet to find a number appear on my bill that would tally with the regularity of the use. Therefore I assume it is an 0800. Considering you are being charged in the region of 2.5%, for them to take more would be outragous, and would make you think of leaving their service. Just look at your bill. Pick up some of your old PDQ copies and compare dates with your phone bills. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. |
Title: Barclays 0870 2424240 Post by marnie on Nov 9th, 2006 at 5:47pm
I've just spent ages browsing through the Barclays posts and many of them were very useful but I'm having trouble finding the number I use on a regular basis. The number I call daily is 0870 2424240 and the closest I got was 0151 252 6700. Unfortunately, when you get through, there's a recorded message telling you to redial 0870 2424240 or 0870 6060060.
0870 2424240 is the number you have to dial for a card authorisation when the pdq machine is down and as my machine often goes wrong, I have to call most days - and it's costing me a bomb. I have tried googling for it but it seems that this particular landline number is very well hidden, if anybody has any suggestions I'd be most grateful. Thanks [edit]by Dave: Thread merged.[/edit] |

An international alternative is given for 0870 6060060 which is +44 (0) 1604 614015 so you can try 01604 614015 withold your number.

I've joined your thread onto the existing on for Barclaycard Merchant Services. Have a read of the above. Am I right in thinking that it is a number for Barclaycard Merchant Services you are looking for? |

Hi Dave, yes it is a number for the merchant services that I'm after, specifically the automated card authorisation service where you have a combination of keypad input and speaking to a disjointed voice. The automated service doesn't always hear what you say and you get asked to repeat yourself and it can take up to 2 minutes to get just a single authorisation code. I also use streamline and found a landline number for them (on a post here) which is brilliant but as I have to use Barclays more than streamline, I would love to have their landline number.
Thanks also to Crabtree for the suggestion, I have tried it but got through after they had closed and will try again in the morning, just got a recorded message tonight. Sorry for posting in the wrong place! Thanks |

PDQs that use a dial-up link dial an 0800 number for authorisations and the like, so that's one less thing to worry about.
As for the IVR system, you can speed things up slightly by using a Touchtone phone to respond to most of the prompts. Never really looked for a geographic number for the Auth centre though, as I work in a railway ticket office, so we just use an internal number to get through to BMS or Amex. Cheers, Barry |

0870 2424240 which is for general authorisation.
The number 01604 234234 goes directly to chargebacks -> Not 0870 60 600 60 (customer Services) 01604 614 012 Also Chargebacks |

Search the database for 0870 6060060 and you will find a number that goes straight through to an operator (within a few seconds). Calling 01604 614015 and going through the menu puts you in a queue that lasted over 5 minutes when I tried it just now. They do keep apologising, but why the person that answers the other number cannot answer I don't know. Unless it's to get more £££ from 0870!
