Title: First Great Western
Post by chinaboy on Apr 28th, 2005 at 11:13am
hi...wonder if anyone can find a geographic number for this outfit who hide behind 0845 numbers. They used to be in Reading, where I tracked down the number 0118 908 3678 for them; but this number now gets an automated message informing us of their new Plymouth number-08456 005 604.
First Great Western or First Great Western Link i think they are!
Thanks :)

Hello all you No-ers!
Hoping for a direct line number to the FGW NAT #  0870 333 1778  which is given when you have a problem with their online ticketing system (HORRIBLE: i would swear their system is running on one 386 server.) I do't want to add a panny more to their unjustified profits.

Attempted a search on your site but got no matches.

There are some entries for First Great Western in the database. Try those and report back whether they work or not. If they don't work, say why.

Yo Mr Moderator!
Was going to post a stroppy reply; so lucky i spotted my mistake in time: the posts above mine ARE the those i should have picked up on my search (perhaps a misspell, perhaps over egged it when i put in
' FIRST GREAT WESTERN  FGW' what the hell) and NOT those posted in response to my 'initial' post.
Apologies. Am new to this forum malarky  :-[

Anyway here is what i can offer:

0118 908 3678  number is now dead.

01793 499 400 WORKS   8-)   If you can get the operator to put you through to the automated customer services

HOWEVER while good for getting access to customer services to deal with problems when tickets are booked over the phone  ,

ONE CANNOT get help sorting out problems with tickets booked over www . The number 0870 333 1778
seems the only way.
Perhaps in this case i/we must accept defeat  because i have learnt from the communicative customer services agent i spoke to that:
1) FGW has only programmed a 'front end' to the www booking system of TRAINLINE.
2)  If there is some form of glich it is really the customer services of TRAINLINE that you are dealing
with? (not really sure about that last bit)

And when i did ring 0870 333 1778 (sorry for letting the side down; but needs must) i find that the call centre is in india.

If you are saying that the online ticketing website is operated by thetrainline.com, then that would suggest that the 0870 number will go through to its office. The first few digits, 0870 333 are the same as thetrainline.com's helpline number.

The thread for thetrainline.com is here.

What is the URL for the FGW ticket sales site?

Hi,

Does anyone have a geographic number for First Great Western? I need the online customer services number because for some reason, the normal customer services don't deal with online orders. The non-geographic number is 0870 333 1778. I've tried searching Google, forum and the website but the ones listed are all out of date. Previous numbers started with 01752...not sure if that helps?

Was just wondering if anyone had any success getting around the 0870 number! :)

0870 numbers are now charged the same as 01, 02 & 03 numbers with many providers (not all, Virgin Media being one that does not) and is inclusive with BT depending which option you are on.

First Great Western online tickets look like they are provided by thetrainline.com. There are some alternative numbers for thetrainline.com in the database.

See above, there is a suggestion that First Great Western's online ticketing service is operated by TheTrainline.com, so the 0870 number might be answered at its offices rather than those of First Great Western.

I've removed the following entries for First Great Western:

Verified:

First Great Western             0845 700 0125       01752 675610*             Aftersales p/o First Group

Unverified:

First Great Western             0845 700 0125       01752 675650*             Customer services p/o First Group

* Recording says "This number is no longer in use"

First Great Western's main published number, 0845 700 0125 and 0845 601 5031 both answer with the same IVR. A number direct to telesales is 01752 675646 which I have listed as verified.

I have also removed entries for First Group's other railway operations, First Hull Trains and First Transpennine Express, which was a Plymouth number 01752 675650. Perhaps the numbers for these are all answered in Plymouth and maybe this number is suitable for other First railway operations.
