Title: Cheaper Calls to 0845/0870 numbers!!!!!!!!! Post by bigjohn on May 13th, 2005 at 7:50pm
I notice that Dialaround offer cheaper calls to 0845/0870 numbers. Visit www.dialaround.co.uk
For 0845=Dial 0844 462 48 48. 2p a min at all times. For 0870=Dial 0844 566 75 75. 5p a min at all times. Great savings if we really have to dial them at peak rate from a landline. Also i believe O2 allow 0844 calls in there exclusive minutes contracts. They also have a sister company www.dialwise.co.uk who also offer cheap rates to 0845/0870 same rates different access numbers. |

When you refer to companies like this, can you please put a link to their website for the rest of us to have a look without having to search first for the info. Just modify your original entry to add the url link. Ta VM |

Is this the website you mean? http://www.dialaround.co.uk/faq.php#4 If it is there not cheaper than BT!! However if you look at their rates under UK it does state 2p for 0845 & 5p for 0870 I found the following: under Q&A section, it gives full costing at different times :( :( Are there peak and off-peak rates? Most of our access numbers have one flat rate, the only exception are 0845 and 0870 numbers, which are charged at the following rates depending on your service provider: BT rates for 0845 local rate numbers are as follows: 1.00 p/min weekend. 1.00 p/min evening. 3.95 p/min daytime. BT rates for 0870 national rate numbers are as follows: 1.50 p/min weekend. 3.95 p/min evening. 7.91 p/min daytime. BT applies a 5p minimum charge. Telewest and NTL rates for 0845 local rate numbers: 1.00 p/min weekend. 1.49 p/min evening. 3.95 p/min daytime. Telewest and NTL rates for 0870 national rate numbers: 2.00 p/min weekend. 3.95 p/min evening. 7.91 p/min daytime. Telewest charges a 6p connection fee for 0845 & 0870 calls and NTL charges a 5p connection fee. Weekend: All day Sat & Sun. Evening: From 6pm – 8am Mon to Fri. Daytime: From 8am – 6pm Mon to Fri. For all other landline and mobile charges please check with your service provider. |

THETHO1. I think you have got the wrong end of the stick here, the rates you have quoted, which are shown in the FAQ page of there website are what it costs normally to ring 0845/0870 non geographical numbers from a BT Landline,Ntl,or Telewest.
I think the reason they mention this is due to the fact that they use to have 0845/0870 access numbers.A lot of there traffic has now been moved to 0844.Which i dont know if you are aware is charged from anything from a 1p to 5p a minute at all times depending on the number range.(I have just read the TOUCAN brochure and see they charge the same as Bt to 0844 numbers). What i was saying in a nutshell was, From a BT Landline if you rang the 0844 462 48 48 access number for ( 0845 )calls at peak rate you would only pay 2p a min instead of 3.95p,and if you rang the 0844 566 75 75 access no for ( 087O ) you would only pay 5p a minute, instead of7.91p. I dont know what NTL,Telewest and other operators charge to call 0844 but as BT was the cheapest carrier i expect there are savings to be made all round on Landline Calls at Peak Rate. |

Thanks Big John,
Very helpful. Only problem is that the BT minimum charge of 5p still applies to calls to the 0844 numbers :-[ T-Bone |

True - and my wife is currently on the phone to her sister in Spain via one of those 1p/minute 0844 dial-through numbers. If the call is less than 5 minutes (fat chance), it'll cost (me) 5p but, if it's longer (there's a very slim possibility that that will be the case), it'll cost (me) 1p/minute and the 5p minimum charge will be irrelevant. |
Title: Re: Cheaper Calls to 0845/0870 numbers!!!!!!!!! Post by bigjohn on May 14th, 2005 at 5:08pm
Of course the appropriate carriers minimum call charge applies, but the chances of you completing a call to a 0845/0870 call centre no at peak rate for less then 5p must be pretty remote.Eg some one was recently complaining on this site that an 11 min 0870 call at peak rate cost nearly a pound. Using the 0844 access no it would have cost 66p, a good saving would have been made.So i would suggest that unless its a very short call savings can be made.
Also if you use the 0844 (0845 access no) its cheaper to phone 0845 no,s from BT then it is to phone Geographical Numbers 2p as opposed to 3p.Unless you are using 18866 or similar but thats another story. |

The companies using 0845 & 0870 numbers are usually receiving custom from us, which makes it wrong for them to profit twice from the calls. When they advertise for business it's usually 0800, but that changes for existing customers. I have posted a lot of alternative numbers on this site to help others - I'm not spamming! Even at 2p a minute these calls can be long and costly. As I pay a flat amount of £10.99 for all landline calls per month with www.equitalk.co.uk I resent paying again to put money in these organisations' pockets.

I am totally against the use of NGN numbers 0845/0870 myself, thats why i contribute to this site regularly and help people find alternative or cheaper ways to contact. I have never suggested that NGN are OK YAH!
You seem to be missing my point if all else fails and you are forced to ring a 0845/0870 number i am suggesting a cheaper way for you to do it if you are ringing from a BT landline.I dont know what equitalk charge to call 0844. If however if there was any way to avoid ringing NGN (unless it saves you money) i would strongly recommend it. If you are not spamming why are you promoting your Anne Summers Business on this site. When you first registered to post on this site today, did you not see that Advertising or Solicitations are not allowed. |

With regard to the calls via dialwise/dialaround to UK mobiles, could someone explain to me the meaning of the different prices for calling a UK Mobile??
If I was calling a UK Mobile (Orange network), would I just use the 3rd one in the list at 2p per min at any time?? ??? united kingdom [landline] Bargain Rate! 0844 861 47 47 1p per min united kingdom [mobile] 0871 999 47 47 10p per min united kingdom [0845 rate] [landline and mobile] 0844 462 46 46 2p per min united kingdom [national rate] [landline and mobile] 0844 566 46 46 5p per min united kingdom [personal] [landline and mobile] 0911 501 45 45 15 Also for the first number in the list (1p per min), can this be used to access 0870 numbers?? ??? |

Smasher.
No you cant call 0845/0870 from the 1p a min 0844 nos only 01/02 geographical numbers. If you tried it will refer you to the appropriate 0844 access no for 0845 or 0870. The numbers you can call mobiles from ,are the 0871 ones.Unless its a personal number 07 in which case you use the 09 number. When they put landline/mobile against a number,it means you use the same number whether you are ringing from a landline or a mobile. |

I'll have to double check this tomorrow during peak hours but I think this means you can call 0870 from any mobile with cross-net minutes.
Dial pre-dial's Orange access number, followed by the 0844 no followed by the 0870. A faff but if you're phoning a call centre maybe useful. |
Title: Re: Cheaper Calls to 0845/0870 numbers!!!!!!!!! Post by bigjohn on May 18th, 2005 at 7:07am
I have in fact already tried to do this.
I used the numbers 07973 832825,07976 826878 and 07792 316447 alas it didnt work for me. (However i did notice that it let you dial 0845 no,s not 0870) but i am not sure what the charging situation is on these numbers. What networks include them in there inclusive minutes.I am aware that some networks are charging for them now. Carrying on from this i then used simply-fones 07744 97 333 access no, this funnily enough allowed me to call 0870 numbers but not 0845.But you need to be very careful of this no Eg Orange have just started charging calls to it at premium rate.I believe you are still ok if you are on o2 or T mobile using it out of your cross network minutes. |

The third of those Pre-dial numbers 0779 231 6447 is for their so-called save as you go service.
When you use it for cheaper calls it adds points to a notional account; for more expensive ones, the balance falls. You can use it to call 0845 numbers, and after saving up a bit it should be usable for 0870 numbers. The idea of trying 0844 numbers hadn't occurred, as I only just read this thread about dialaround etc. Have people used these 0844 numbers in peak hours? |

I have worked out it's theoritically possible to actually take out a new contract phone from "3" and MAKE MONEY from this system.
By using the 500 minutes a month, and not buying the top of the range mobile, you get alot of rebate of line rental. Now by getting your own 0870 number, you could probably get between 2-3p per minute. As it's already been established, 07744 are not included in 3's inclusive minutes. However pre-dial's orange number is!! Now, by using "3" to call landlines during the day, then you save up points. You can save up even more, by using "3" to call freephone numbers, from the orange number. When you have plenty of points, use them up, to call yourself on your 0870 number!! Remember to be carefull, and not use over your 500 minutes a month. Also bear in mind that minutes do not roll over, so get as close to possible to 500 minutes, without going over. The rebate from your 0870 number should be more than the line rental. Also, at the end you have a video phone, which could fetch some more money from ebay, or the classifieds in the local paper. I have also heard of details of vodaphone's "stop the clock" promotion, where users can use their anytime minutes to call any mobile or landline for 60 minutes, and only pay for 3 minutes. Haven't researched thoroughly enough yet, but surely another use of pre-dial's orange number is in order!! |
