Title: Jobcentre Plus - geographical number doesn't work Post by gtz101 on May 26th, 2005 at 12:05pm
Currently the geographical number for jobcentre plus is 01513534701 as shown in the search box on the main page of this site, BUT that number doesnt work anymore. Does anyone know its alternative geographical number please? the non alternative geographical number is 0845 6060234

Works for me as well. On a BT line but the call was carried by Call18866 without any problem.

The number is for JobCentre Plus where you can make a new fresh claim and search for jobs. I've just this minute tried it and waited (after the initial recording at the beginning) about 7 seconds for them to answer.
You must have rung when they were very busy just be grateful you weren't ringing the 0845 number. The 0845 may route calls to one of several call centres across the UK depending on whether they are busy or not (this i'm guessing). If this is the case then obviously its going to be harder to find the other geographical numbers it may use. It was me that posted this number and I only found it out because when they answer you can ask them to ring you back. When they did this their number showed as 01513534700 but when I rung this later it wasn't accepting incoming calls so just tried the next consecutive number up and it worked! Its highly unlikely this is a someones direct line number at the call centre as I've never heard of direct line numbers having recorded messages at the beginning. It's generally only the public released (general) calling number that have recorded messages at the beginning of the call. |

cool, cheers.
btw: if you dial that number, obviously they are gonna transfer u to correct deparmtnet and lets say that dept normally use 0845 number, will I get charged when they transfer over? |

No. You will be charged at the rate of calling the geographical number (this may be free depending on your calls package). You will only be charged if you actually dial the 0845 number, not if you are put through from the geo number. By putting you through, they direct your call through their internal network. Once you have dialled the geo number, nothing can change how you are charged for it unless you replace the handset then redial the non-geo number. Hope this helps ;D |

There is no extra charge if they transfer the call internally to another dept.
In fact i dont think its technically possible to change the cost of a call, once you have dialled the originating number,no matter where the call ends up. |

Funny that! I had to ring MMA insurance once (0870 surprise, surprise) so I rang h/o (geo number) and asked them could they transfer me as i'm out and about and can't write down the number. The lady from h/o informed me she could but I'd have to pay the cost of the transfer! I know that's not true but replied back, "that's fine, I don't mind at all". So she transferred me.
Obviously, she thought i'd have to pay the cost of the transfer but little did she know that they would pay the cost (assuming it wasn't internal to them) or it's free if it they are connected so that calls can be dialled internally. |

are you sure because remember you do get conencted straight away BUT it is usually the automated machine that speaks first but did it take you 7 seconds to actually speak to someone on there? That number still doesnt allow you to talk to someone, and I have been trying it for 4 weeks now. Its just a machine saying, "we are busy, please hold etc.... |

It was only 7 seconds waiting from after the automated voice greeting to when they actually answered.
I've just tried again and it was busy this time. Got the recorded message. That's first time I've ever got that! I've just rung the 0845 from my mobile (inclusive minutes) and it took them about 20 seconds to answer but I noticed I got diverted to another call centre (could hear the quick change in the ring tones) and someone not from liverpool answered. Therefore, they must operate several call centres and the 0845 tries each one until it can get one that isn't busy. As it appears they operate more than one call centre then there won't be a geographical number that searches for the least busy call centre. It'll be the 0845 that searches for the least busy call centre and transfers us through to to the geographical number of that call centre (an 0845 feature). The choice is yours. Ring the 0845 and speak to them at 4ppm, or alternatively, if you're using Call18866/1899, then ring the geographical in liverpool and wait in line for a bit but then it's only 2p per call, not 4p per minute, or, try when they may not be as busy which maybe possibly first thing or later on in the afternoon. |

I did that because I was making a claim ages ago. I'd have no reason to call them now at all plus that would mean having to ring the 0845 number and 'hope' that I get put through to another call centre and not the one liverpool.
If you don't want to ring the 0845 and ask them to call you back then I suggest ringing the 01513534701 number first thing tomorrow maybe!?! |
