Title: Unlimited Calls with TalkTalk/Tele2 - From £7.49
Post by bbb_uk on Jun 1st, 2005 at 10:40am
TalkTalk are now doing unlimited (well for the first 70mins of each call anyhow) geographical calls for £7.99.

They're obviously only doing this to match AOL's unlimited geographical package of the same monthly price.

As of time of writing this, OneTel don't appear to have any offers but I suspect they may also match the price of £7.99 for their unlimited geographical package and I have emailed them and asked them if they have any plans on price-matching?  I'll post here again when (and if) I get a reply!

Click here for more info on TalkTalk's unlimited price plan.

Or, alternatively, Click here for AOL's Talk plan.

This has also been posted on MSE forum here.

UPDATE: Tele2 are now doing their unlimited calls for £7.49 (slightly beating AOL/TalkTalk).  Due to this I amended the title of the post!   Thanks to pricefigher (MSE forum) for this information.

I suppose as most of the revenue collected by telcos is shifting from GNs to NGNs, which are not included in these deals, we shall see the price of monthly "inclusive" packages continuing to come down.

This is at least one small consolation for the current scams with NGNs. However, it also demonstrates how much bigger the sheer volume of these scams is becoming, as more and more organisations and private subscribers change their given numbers to NGNs, and thus most of the numbers which callers need to dial (particularly during the day) are NGNs.

As I predicted some while ago, if no adequate action is taken by the regulator (and surprise-surprise, it looks as if another complete whitewash is on the horizon) it will not be long before almost all of the numbers which callers need to dial are NGNs. Then competition in telecommunications will have been completely destroyed and so-called "inclusive" packages such as these will probably have come down to £2 per month or so and will have become totally pointless, since there will be hardly anyone left with GNs to call!

TalkTalk customer services today confirmed they would be offering line rental at £9 per month for existing customers.  They reckon the offer will start next month.

The £7.99 figure for TalkTalk is limited to 12 months only.  Can't tell with the Tele2 offer if this is time limited or not.

Interestingly, First Telecom pledge to price match the lowest bill out of Homecall, Ontel, TalkTalk and Tele2.  When I asked them if they would match the £7.99 offer they said if it wasn't a special offer.  If they do match it then you don't need to pay the monthly fee at all with First Telecom, your landline calls are effectively capped so if you go on holiday you save some money in that month.  Only trouble is the way they do the comparison is against the standard packages from the other providers, if the Tele2 offer is a 'standard offer' then with First Telecom price match your calls are capped at £7.49.  Its difficult to get information out of First Telecom as to what they are comparing with as they use another company to do the comparison.

When I enquired about One.Tel matching Tele2 price of £7.49 a couple of weeks ago, I was advised that One.Tel would not, however I did say, that they should do, otherwise customers could / would defect to other telecoms companies.
