www.3utelecom.co.uk    i assume you are talking about.

I cant see any where that it says calls to NGN 0870 are 2p peak,& 1p offpeak. It does say UK National calls are that rate but by that i think your find it means just calls to 01/02 numbers.

Dear Mr Davies,

Thanks for your inquiry.

Unfortunately we don't offer service to 0845 numbers.  Our rates to 0870 numbers are: 2p/min. peak time Monday - Friday 8am-6pm) and 1p/min. off-peak time (nights and weekends).

Best regards,

Heidrun Weinmann

Thanks Rafiki for that info .If you have added that, and the website in the first place it would have been much easier.
If what they say is true then it is a very good rate to 0870 indeed.I am surprised they dont support 0845 calls though.
There mobile rate calls 13p at all  times probaly subsidise the 0870 rate.

I wonder if they are stupid enough to have been fooled by the "National" and "Local" rate labelling of 0870 and 0845??  They can't offer those rates because at peak rates, providers receive around 3p per minute of the 0870 revenue so it can't possibly be! ???

It's currently not the cheapest though.  AbroadTel.co.uk are doing 0845/0870 numbers for 1ppm at anytime.  It is thought this is a mistake on their behalf and when they realise they'll put a stop to it or charge more.  Read this post on MSE forum originally posted by pricefighter.

Hi Smasher, the high volume scammers receive over 4 p per minute. If you look at even some of the Google ads on this site they are actually offering 4 p per minute for 0870s.

Is anybody still managing to get 0870 calls to work on 3U telecom ?

For me it stopped working in the first week of July and now I just get the beep followed by "the number is not recognised" recorded message.

I don't know if this is for all 0870 numbers or just the ones I regularly use.

someone just posted on MSE that 3U tariffs for 0870, 0845, 118xxx, and other numbers had taken a very steep hike in prices eg 0870 and 0845 33p/minute, 118xxx about £3

£3.33 per minute to any 118 number!

Now there's a firm to avoid.

I think this just confirms what has been suggested previously(http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?board=cheapcalls;action=display;num=1097155266), that being based in Germany 3U were not aware of this scam with various 08s and 07PNS being used as covert Premium numbers. This is in a sense poetic justice, or so I always feel whenever I see a telco provider taking a hit with these charges, and the list of overseas telcos who have taken hits from this scam grows all the time!

For those who have been following this scam since the beginning, we have seen various telcos (including mobile operators) who initally did not realise that they were taking a hit with these numbers, particularly where calls to these NGNs were included within an inclusive call package; almost all have since withdrawn them from inclusion and I do not doubt that the remaining one or two will follow suit when they get their sums done right so that they understand their profit position in reality!

There is no way in which these calls may be carried by any telco operator for less than the outline Premium provision (e.g. for 0870 of 4.5 p) plus the carrying and termination costs (most of which are paid to BT) without sustaining a loss.

Nice of them not to warn their users  :-[

According to the site those rates have applied since 20'th July.

Luckily for me most 0870 calls failed to connect via 3U so I've only made a couple since then.
