Title: 18866 Set Up ?
Post by Furkin on Aug 10th, 2005 at 8:06am
I have registered with 18866 for the time being. The L.Line side seems great. Whilst waiting for my customer number I registered my VIRGIN Moby too. I think that was a bit 'previous' as I think we can just add numbers to our Initial account once up'n'running ??
1/ Should I unsubscribe my Moby account,,, then just add it to my L.Line account ?
2/ Yesterday I was charged by both Virgin and 18866 for a Moby call. What did I do wrong ?
3/ I do take 'on-board' what 18866 say about spending time & resources by helping people, but wouldn't it enhance their business by helping people to get set up properly in the first place ?
4/ Is there a cheaper alternative for either L.Line or Moby calling than this ?
thanks for reading this

1.It would be better for you to have all your numbers on one a/c unless you particular want to seperate them.So close one of the a/cs if  you wish to do so.

2.I assume you used the 0207 or 0808 mobile access no when you phoned from the Virgin Payg Phone these are both chargeable on Virgin. Unless you have an inclusive cross network minutes bundle where the 0207 would be included.Virgin charge to call freephone numbers 10p a min, apart from a few charities and emergency help line no,s.

To enable us to advise you if there is any cheaper way. What numbers are you calling from your mobile?( UK Landlines,Intl Landlines,Uk Mobiles,Intl Mobiles.)

From a landline 18866 and 1899 are probaly your best bets.

Thanks again John,

1/ I have already cancelled the Moby account.  I tried adding it to my L.Line account yesterday, but it doesn’t show up on there yet ! A bit over long would you agree ?

2/ Yep, I used the 020 number.  I have limited use for the Moby at the moment (I used to be a dealer – well before payg came about)  I have been on this Virgin since it came out, & found it the best value (cheapest) thing for my needs (within the ‘normal’ call rates etc).  Am I right in assuming that my existing Virgin is no good at all on 18866 ?

3.To enable us to advise you if there is any cheaper way. What numbers are you calling from your mobile?( UK Landlines,Intl Landlines,Uk Mobiles,Intl Mobiles.)
3/ My main Moby calls are to UK L.L & occasionally to UK Moby’s.  I try to use txt’s if I can and don’t need to ‘chat’.

4.From a landline 18866 and 1899 are probaly your best bets.
4/ Am satisfied with 18866 at the mo’,,,, but will keep an eye on this site now that I’ve found it.
Thanks to all

1.It might take a little while until they charge you for the mobile a/c.
2.Using the 18866 0207 access no from a Virgin Phone to ring a L/L you are charged twice. Cheaper just to ring landline direct.
3.You can benefit from cheaper cross network mobile calls by using one of the 0871 indirect access no,s eg www.dialaround.co.uk  0871  999 34 34. As Virgin only charge 15p a min to dial 0871 numbers, where as they charge 35p a min to call cross network mobiles

Remember that any number beginning 0 will meter from when it answers. That is when a service such as 18866 answers on its 020 number with a message such as "Welcome to [company], please enter the number you wish to dial..." you will be charged. You will therefore be charged to hear the secondary ringing tone, including if there is no answer to the final destination.

The same will apply to the 0808 number when made from an operator who charges for such a number (as is the case for Virgin Mobile).

This isn't the case with dialing the 18866 prefix from a (BT) landline.

With most mobiles, there's no point in using a dial-through to call land lines or the same numbers with the same network/operator. In the case of Virgin, you're paying the 'standard' call rate anyway.

Just to say that 18866 have still not added my mobile numbers to my L.Line account - not that i'm bothered about the Virgin one,,,,, but is it worth registering my 02 PAYG ?

Using the 18866 or 1899 access numbers on a mobile are good for 'phoning overseas. With Virgin calling the USA on 1899 would cost you the landline call to the access number then 1p per minute.
