Title: More positive publicity Post by mikeinnc on Aug 12th, 2005 at 11:14am
I was listening last night on the Internet to the popular UK radio station Classic FM, when I heard the "small hours" presenter, Mark Griffiths giving this web site some very positive publicity. I realise that maybe not a lot of people are listening at 03:00am in the UK (of course, it was only 10:00pm here in the US!) but any widespread recognition of the scam that is 0870 is welcome. He did mention, of course, that there were probably quite a lot of people listening at Heathrow whilst they sat and waited for a BA flight....... :-/
Mark mentioned that 'callers were being ripped off by being forced to pay up to 10 pence a minute' and how 'an increasing number of companies were using these numbers'. He then told his listners that 'there was an excellent web site -- www.saynoto0870.com' - that allowed callers to 'find an alternative number that was given for overseas callers'. He specifically mentioned airlines (even though we saw that BA had chosen a 0800 number. My concern there is that I see on the BBC website this morning that people are complaining they "cannot get through". Let's hope BA don't use that as "evidence" that 0800 numbers 'do not work' - or am I just cynical? ??? ) I did email him with some further information, but retired for the evening before I heard anything more. Let's hope he can convince some of his co-presenters to also take up the cause! (You can email any of the presenters by going to - www.classicfm.com and choosing classicfm presenters in the right hand column). |
