Title: 1899 vs 18866 etc
Post by drwood on Sep 8th, 2005 at 3:59pm
I phone UK landlines and France mainly. AFAICS 1899 is cheaper to France (1p vs 2p) and has the same connection charge as 18866 (3p now). Any reason why 18866 (or other) is better than 1899 for me?

For calling France, I use 18185.co.uk now - 1p/minute.

It's also cheaper for calling 0870 numbers (4p/minute peak rate).

1899 does seem to be the best for you from the calling pattern described.
Unless you wanted to pay by d/d in which case you would have to use 18866 as 1899 do not offer this facility.
Also if you were to call Uk Mobiles from a Landline,1899 would be a better option.

Except at weekends when 18185's per minute rate is cheapest (2p/minute compared with 1899's 3p/minute).

18185 is more attractive in some cases as Heinz points out.(It does have a slightly higher connection charge 4p instead of 3p.)

However if you want to use  18185 from Cable or Mobile its access 020 and 0808 codes still do not work >:(

If you are looking for cheap calls from a landline to a Intl Number  www.topupnow.co.uk is worth a look at. Now offers 17 free destinations,a lot more at a 1p.(5p connection charge applies).
