Title: BT overides Anonymous Caller Rejection Post by BillH on Oct 5th, 2005 at 6:12pm
Hi all. I pay BT for Anonymous Caller Rejection (ACR) and accept that it does not stop "unavailable" calls. Today I had a call that displayed "operator" and on answering found that I was connected to a government body dealing with taxation (nothing to worry about!). I presume they withhold their number. I was somewhat annoyed to find that my £10 or so a quarter was being circumvented so spoke to BT. After 20 mins of getting nowhere and being offered registration with the TPS or to change my number, I asked to speak to a supervisor. Manesh did actually grasp what I was complaining about and put me through to malicious and nuisance calls. Spoke to Daniel who explained that BT offer a service where a withheld caller can ask the operator to ring me and ask if I will accept a call from whoever. I can chose to accept or refuse. Irrespective of outcome, the caller pays £3. It appears that the operator didn't follow procedure and connected without asking. Daniel was unable to advise me if I should be asked again in the future, whether the caller's number would be made available to me before deciding, or what checks were in place to confirm identity of caller. It would appear that this "feature" circumventing ACR is not published. I left Daniel to raise this at his next operator's get together. Were any of the regular contributers aware of this? I know that other providers offer cheaper ACR but do they offer this circumventing "feature"? Bill
