Sad to see that the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy lists a string of 0870s on its Web site (www.bacp.co.uk) as contact numbers for its various sections. Even sadder to see that it claims "All calls charged at BT National Rate". I'll be e-mailing them to explain why this is not the case.
There's nothing in the database and Google doesn't throw up any leads; does anyone have any of the underlying geographical numbers? The BACP is based in Rugby. |

Welcome.
A 192.com search comes up with 01788 550 899. You could try that. It does work as just tried it but according to 192.com its the administration line so you may have to act surprised and apologise when they answer with the dept and say sorry could you transfer me please. Failing that you could try some numbers nearby and do the same (act surprised, apologise & could you transfer me please). Let us know how you get on (specifically if they have no problems transferring you) and I'll add it to the database. Thanks. |

I've had a brief look at the BACP site on the Internet Archive. No joy as of yet, but maybe all those 0870s map directly to 'old' geographical equivalents. :-/

When you talk to them ask them if they have the number of a councillor who can council a person who has been scammed and ripped off by using 0870 numbers!

Further to my last, I sent them a mildly bolshie e-mail pointing out that there was no such animal as BT National Rate and received a "we're looking into it" reply.
I noticed this morning that the web site now says "0870 calls are charged at your operator's national rate (no more than 8p a minute)". On the basis that they're either being naive or cynical -- and either way, taking advantage of people likely to be in some degree of distress -- I've threatened a referral to the ASA. John |

I suspect that was me.
I received an e-mail on Monday from Carl Boucher, the boss, promising me that the web site would be updated shortly. Well he certainly did it quickly, if not as we had desired. Will send him some more. juby |

Thank you for updating your web site re telephone numbers, really not quite the point though is it.
You are attempting to pass the blame onto someone else, your operators etc., The blame lies squarely with you Sir, you are making three pence a minute out of any person who might be ringing in distress. Disgraceful. And typical of the charities in this country who seek to make money out of the those less fortunate than ourselves. Sent to Carl Boucher tonight. juby |
