What a stinking lousy trick!! It's only to be expected - just another scam. As I have said previously, I cannot see any value in having VoIP in the UK because of the ridiculous prices the VoIP providers are charging for 0870 - 0845 calls...which could be 30 to 40% of an average subscriber's calls. So much for FREEtalk

Anyway, the Dixons plan is run by Packet8. Their US 24 hour customer service number is 1-888-898-8733. Notice something there? Yes, if you are a Packet8 customer in the US, you have a TOLL FREE number for customer service. But, oh no, in Rip-Off Britain, "...we'll slug the suckers for a few more quid...." >:(

So. dby416, I'd suggest you call that number instead. It will not be toll free to you, of course, but it will cost you a normal US call charge...which, ridiculously, is probably considerably cheaper than calling 0871.

You might get far better information there than being constantly ripped off by Dixons.

Yep on my particular BT package calls to US anytime is 5p so half the price to phone a US number than a 'supposedly' non premium UK number. Ludicrous isn't it.

you should be able to call the toll free (freephone) usa helpline using your freetalk connection free of charge if thats working. if not you could use the service on www.telediscount.co.uk to call them at UK local rate. it's via an 0845 number, but 1p beats 10p a min! hope this info helps.

You could divide that by ten - USA is 4p connection and ½p per minute using 18185.

Call their usa free phone number from th euk at local rate. follow these instructions:

Call 0845 2 441 441
follow the instruction you hear on the phone
Enter the full usa number including international dialing code.
So you should enter their number like this -  001-888-898-8733
This call will then only cost you UK local rate! saving upto 9p per minute compared to the 0871 rip-off revenue generating line!

Thats assuming that the same call centre answers the Free Talk enquiries of course.
