I write in connection with your request for information dated 18th October 2005 concerning 0870 and 0845 telephone numbers.

Your request for information has now been considered and the information asked for is enclosed. Having spoken with our Communications Officer I can confirm the following.



1.      Do you use 0870 telephone numbers?
No

1.1.    And if so, what are the equivalent geographical numbers?
Since Dorset Police do not use 0870 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

1.2.    What revenue do you receive per minute and in total from the use of 0870 numbers?
None

1.3.    Are you aware of the revenue collected by your telecom provider, from your callers?
Yes

1.4.    Have you considered the revised COI1 guidelines?
No

1.4.1.  If so, what conclusions did you come to?
Not Applicable

1.5.    Do you realise that all calls (local/national) cost the same regardless if calling from Glasgow or Bath??
Since Dorset Police do not use 0870 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

1.6.    Are you aware of the cost implications to your callers, when using 0870 numbers, including calls from mobile phones?

Since Dorset Police do not use 0870 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

1.7.    Are you also aware that callers cannot connect to 0870 numbers from overseas?
Since Dorset Police do not use 0870 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

1.8.  How much does it cost to call an 0870 number:

1.8.1.      In the Daytime.
1.8.2.      In the Evening.
1.8.3.      At Weekends.

2.      Do you use 0845 numbers?
No

2.1.    And if so, what are the equivalent geographical numbers?
Since Dorset Police do not use 0845 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

2.5.    Do you realise that a call to local number costs the same as a call to a national number when made from the same location for the majority of telephone subscribers?

Since Dorset Police do not use 0845 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

2.6.    Do you realise that 0845 numbers now offer no cost advantage to callers, irrespective of their location, only disadvantages?

Since Dorset Police do not use 0845 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

2.7.    Are you aware of the cost implications to your callers, when using 0845 numbers, including calls from mobile phones?

Since Dorset Police do not use 0845 numbers we hold no information regarding this.

2.8.  How much does it cost to call an 0845 number:

3.      What companies operate your:

3.1.  0845 telephone numbers.
3.2.  0870 telephone numbers.
3.3.  Telephone switch equipment

Since Dorset Police do not use these numbers we hold no information regarding this.

4.      I would also like all the internal documents, memos; meetings; discussions and any information relating to the tender of the 0870, 0845 numbers.

Since Dorset Police do not use these numbers we hold no information regarding this.

Dorset Police at present do not use 0870 or 0845 numbers, as it is felt the public should be able to call us at the local call rate. All our police stations have a local number, but calls may be forwarded at our expense to our main central number of 222 222.

Why did you file an FOI request on a police force that doesn't use NGN numbers?

beacuse i wanted to see there response on the use of NGN. Plus I am also using the timescales as a comparision to herts response.
