From the website above:

"We're an established, experienced company
Onetel is owned by Centrica plc, which also owns British Gas. We have been operating for more than ten years now, and we're known and trusted by over 1.7 million customers in the UK."

I thought that they were up for sale/disposal?

They are indeed, and in last weeks Mail on Sunday it said CPW/Talk Talk were in pole position to purchase them. ;D

Sorry, BJ, I was making an oblique point about their not giving the full picture.  :-[
But I suppose that "come to us we're up for sale" might not be so inviting.

New customers only. So existing customers get a raw deal. Any existing customers should withdraw their business. I have complained to Onetel about this. Will let you know what they say.

Is it possible to sign up with Onetel on a referral for the £20 credit each but not have select but have the 1877 access code instead?

Hi Smasher,

I don't think you can. I believe you have to sign up for their CPS to get this credit.

But hey, why sign up for this at all dpay 99p per month when you can get Primus or  Just Dial Saver with the same deal and I think mostly lower call rates for zilch? (I think it may be difficult at present to sign up for Just Dial Saver though, since they may not be taking any new subscribers at present?)

I was treated really bad by one-tel about 8 months ago and I was not even a customer at that point.
I had sent them a basic email with some questions and enquires about the serivce, heard nothing for some time.

Next I had a plug-in pre-dial box sent to me and a letter saying welcome to One-Tel, after calling them and waiting in a que for what seemed a lifetime I got through to an overseas call centre the line was awful I was passed from piller to post after they insisted I was a customer, even though I proved I was not. Cowboys avoid them, I am BG customer and I had one of their C.S muppets call me up this week trying to sale me every B.G product under the sun and when he mentioned one-tel and I just laughed and said "sorry you destroyed any hope of selling me anything now".

Hi jay_dog,

I was a previous customer of One-Tel also and I think what every potential customer, customer or previous customer of One-Tel knows is that their Customer Service is terrible and nonchalant. Have you made a formal complaint to them? If not have you considered complaining to Otelo?

They dont even know what caller ID is, and I have 12 plug in boxes, what the hell?!?! I soon told them where to stick it.. Shame, I miss the origional onetel..

They dont train their staff, its a no wonder the company is so s**t now.

You live and learn I never knew any of this, well apart from the staff being untrained that would not suprise me at all.

I emailed Onetel to complain about the 99p deal only being for new customers. I received an email saying I my email has been passed onto another dept and I would recieve a reply within 48 hours. 3 days later I phoned them up, got through to an indian call centre. Spoke to a woman gave details, had winge, she passed me through to somebody else. They said that the only way to get the rate would be to cancel and come back as a new customer. I said, "You do realise that I may not come back and during the time I am away you will lose revenue, so surely the best thing for both of us is to move me to the new rate without any more hassle" I was promised a call back from a manager that day....which never came.

So I just phoned them again tonight. I again got through to an indian call centre, who seem unable to communicate wihout reading off a list of things to say, even if I complain about not having a call returned. Onetels customer 'service' has obviously been completely outsourced to India. So this is why customer service levels have suffered - No returned calls or emails. I asked politely (all the time BTW) if I could have a manager call me back and threatened that if this time I do not get a call back tonight, the next time I will be calling I really will cancel all my Onetel services. So no call back - surprise. These guys I speak to have no clue and can only repeat that its available to new customers only, like parrots.

Bunch of incompetants in my experience. Shame because they used to be a good company to deal with. No wonder Centrica have put them up for sale.

Does anybody know any contact telephone numbers for Onetel management in the UK before I give up and cancel it all?

I wish it were that easy. My choice is a bit limited as I am on cable.

ahh they are incapable of much them untrained staff in the other countries.. If they need the money that much, they should take pride in their work, learn the job and sound like they are enjoying the job..

But no, all we get is obvious script reading, slave driven, illiterate, attitude infested cheek - You try asking them what caller ID is, or any other communications question, go on, dare ya to ask one what a LLU is! its actually quite amusing!

I have a TV with Sky built in.  As I am sure all readers know, it's called an iDTV.

I had a minor problem with my Sky card some time ago and was routed to their call centre annex in India.  I gave up after 5 minutes trying to explain to the 'agent' what an iDTV is.
