i seem to spend far to much on 0870 and 0845 numbers
i get charged a connection charge

I'm not exactly sure what information you are looking for. The 'best home phone service' will depend upon many factors - calling patterns, specific numbers, call volumes etc. Ultimately you will have to determine a plan or combination of plans that suit your specific needs. If you are looking for a cheaper way to call 0870/0845, then there are suggestions in the 'cheap call providers' discussion forum.

You may want to look at http://www.18185.co.uk/rates.php for 0870/0845. Note this is not a recommendation - it may or may not meet your needs, however it is discussed in the cheap calls forum, and on the surface, seems to be useful for daytime weekday 0870.

Also, please ensure you respond to Ofcom's consultation on these scandalous numbers.
