I hesitate to ask, but (in the spirit of enquiry) what is so special that one must buy shoes from people screwing you for the 'phone call?

I have found a geographical number for both Samuel Windsor and Clifford James, who are now both based in Skelmersdale.  The number is for the head office in Skelmersdale and its automatic answering states that it is 'BVG Airflow Group', but you immediately get menu options, such as 'sales', and, low and behold, you are through to Clifford James/ Samuel Windsor!  The number is 01874 612612.  Magic!  I have long been trying to find Clifford James's number - not a particularly nice firm to deal with.

There are several numbers listed in the unverified database:

• 01874 612612 As mentioned above by Mcavity. I have been unable to locate BVG Airflow Group's website, but this is a Brecon number.
  
• 01695 566980 appears to be a switchboard/general number as it answers "Clifford James".
  
• 01695 455647 No description.

The contact pages for Clifford James and Samuel Windsor gives the fax number 01695 566971. Numbers are the Skelmersdale office therefore probably begin 01695 5669xx.

All I can say is that I was able to get information on my Clifford James order today on the 01874 number, simply by pressing the appropraite menu button when prompted.  The fact that the parent company answers as BVG whatever is irrelevant.

That is quite a good place to start if the database fails for a request.

Beware when using this number.  We have just received a BT bill for ‘attempting’ to contact this company.  We are just recovering from the shock as we were charged a total of £98.47 for four calls.  It would appear that the line was left open from the automatic answering machine at their end on four separate occasions.  We never actually managed to speak to anyone.   The calls were supposedly for 2 x 8 hours – 1 x 3 ½ hrs and (wait for it) 1 x 17 hours.  One of the calls was listed as being at 01.31 on the morning of Sunday 25 October when we were all in bed!!!
We immediately rang BT when we received our bill and were very courteously listened to and it was agreed that there was something seriously wrong.  They are investigating and will re-fund us appropriately.  We are sure that there is something strange happening here!!!

From what you say, it would appear that the line was left open. It's not the recipient's fault that the caller has incurred charges if this was the case.

When a call is landline to landline and there is a period of silence, the call will be ended (terminated) after several minutes. However, if the recipient plays a recording over and over, it stands to reason that this will never happen.


What types of telephones do you have on your line? Cordless, corded, how many of each? If any are corded, are they old models? Perhaps if they are corded, the switch that operates when the handset is replaced is not working as it should and the line if remaining open.

Our single phone line is just standard and we had no reason to suspect that the Clifford James answerphone was still on the line.

One point that I failed to make was the fact that we have NEVER had this problem before or since with our landline.  This particular number is BAD NEWS and we still consider there is something strange going on with this number.

I've done some work on the entries for Clifford James and others BVG Airflo companies.

On calling the 01695 566980 number, one is greeted with a recording requesting an extension number be entered or to hold for an operator. Holding puts one into what can only be decribed as technological abiss (silence), which may well explain AandA's report (above) last year on which the line remained open.

BT Phonebook lists 01695 556981 for Clifford James at Gladden Place West, Gillibrands, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, WN8 9SX. This is the address of Esher Mail Order Ltd, which trades as Clifford James and Samuel Windsor, which is part of BVG Airflo Group Ltd.

That isn't the number for the Brecon address as I've tried that one too. Had to use the 0870 number in the end and was on hold for eight minutes! Hope they've sorted out the problem with the answering machine on that other number as I called it a few times too!

The Brecon address is home to BVG Airflo (Esher's parent) which is where its fishing sites run from.

Did you speak to anyone on the 01874 number(s)? If so, and they couldn't deal with your call, then that suggests that calls to Clifford James and Samuel Windsor are dealt with at Skelmersdale, or perhaps somewhere else. If it's Skelmersdale, the I suggest trying 01695 566981.

I rang this this number too and got silence. But they do not repeat the message so it should have terminated the call.

I have removed 01695 566981 as it's for the retail shop at the warehouse and is closed indefinately.
