Title: I have an idea! Post by funkyjunkymunky on Dec 17th, 2005 at 2:16pm
This might be too far...but I was wondering if it would be possible to have some sort of service whereby:
Instead of having to search on the computer (not ideal when out and about), you dial a special phone number and then type in the 0870 number you want an alternative for. The service then reads the corrsponding number(s) for that listing. Do you think that would be possible? It would be a great addition to the saynoto0870 service. Thanks! |

That sounds like a great idea. We could set it up on 0870 7296686 (0870 SayNoTo) or how about an 090* number at £1/min (£60/hr). Then for mobiles we could use the premium rate text service at £1, and we text you back the requested info if we have it in the database. Failing that, we could spend a couple of hours searching for the alternative and send it back to you on a premium charge text message.
Just think, I could actually start to get paid for the work I do for the SayNoTo0870 website database. Daniel . . . . . . . . . DANIEL !! Remember that pay rise I asked you about last time, I was just replying to someone who was asking about providing a directory service on the Site Related forum and I got to thinking that . . . . . . . . . . |

Thanks! So do you think it would be viable? DaveM wrote on Dec 17th, 2005 at 5:19pm:
Wouldn't that kind of defeat the object? |

Somewhat but then, how else would you expect it to pay for itself ?
I wouldn't mind setting it up if it was viable, however I somewhat doubt it ! We could always set up a 118 0870 service !! |

Yeah Brill Idea.
How about an 090 charged at £1.50 per min (calls WILL last longer then 10mins, average length of call 30mins). Then theres the reverse charge text message service. Txts cost £1.50 per text. And you join a club where we send you 4 pointless messages every week, each charged at £1.50. Well call it the 'no0870' club. Welcome to the 'No0870' club Term and Conditions: Calls to this service are Premium rate @ £1/text. Replies with the requested information from our database will be by Reverse Charge text message service charged @ £1.50/text. We will send you 4 promotional messages every week, also charged at £1.50 whether you want them or not. To opt out of this service, text STOP to No0870 this will also cost you £1.50 and we will send a confirmation message also charged at £1.50................ * !! * DaveM

What about 118 087 - if we are to include 0871?
And, of course a £2 charge on 118 084? |

If you have a WAP enabled mobile phone you might be able to view the site on there. I have a Siemens CX65 and it views OK on there. You might want to turn images off.

I doubt it will work with a WAP enabled phone. Many phones nowadays can view web pages, but this is hardly an efficient way of doing it. (The average GPRS charge is about 0.5p/KB. The front page of the site is 15KB without images, so that's 7.5p for a start!) In addition, the site will not work on any older phones that only support true WML as opposed to HTML or XML. It would be quite straightforward to produce a WAP interface to the database. This would allow a query to be carried out in only a few KB, and would work from any phone. It would be no burden on the server as the pages would actually be much smaller to serve than the standard web pages. But somehow I can't see this being implemented by the site Admin... |

wap.saynoto0870.com would be a good idea for a start.
