Its a newish 0844 number so OneTel  havent got round to listing it yet.But BT class it as a 1p a minute number so OneTel will charge 1O% more to call it. 1.1p

If you havent moved your line rental to Onetel  you can get it at BT,s rates by using the 1280 override service.

Yes thats right 0844 numbers normally come in five bands. ranging from 1p to 5p on BT. OneTel add 10% so when you paid 4.4p and 5.5p you must have been calling 4p and 5p banded numbers.

Thats one of the disadvantages of moving your line rental from BT.You cant use the 1280 override to get cheaper 0844/0845/0870 calls.

www.cleverates.co.uk is registered to Callax who also run Abroadtel.  Abroadtel were doing a 1p per minute mobile promotion around halloween time.

Practical experience shows that unlike Finarea Callax brand call quality is extremely suspect and calls often don't connect (costing you the initial 5p) so I would treat with caution.  Only use if you expect the call to the mobile to last 5 minutes or more.

They are also the same outfit as Pennyphone who run an ill thought out promotion to India this year, also Phonebird is another of their brands.

Just tried using the number (using my O2 inclusive minutes), and it connects to my own mobiles no problem.

However the loophole I was hoping for is not there.  That is 07744 numbers!!

When I tried an 07744 number as my destination, it sounded like I had got through to a fax machine.  I even tried the 07744 number direct, just incase they were out of service temporarily, but it worked fine.  I then tried an 0870 number, and it came with an announcement that the destination was unavailable.

Oh well, nice try though!!

Can you help me. I'm trying to ring my husband's mobile-it's an 07702 number

I've dialld

08447212525 then what do I dial next.

My husband is saying pluss 44 but there's no plus on our landline phone.

When I ring from America -I have to dial o11 44 before adding our geographical code.

Yup, but one never knows what one partner calls the other.
I have never hear a gay man or a lesbian woman refer to their partner as being a husband or wife.  I believe sub and dom are in some cases words that are used? ;)

Thanks for increasing my vocabulary, NonGeographicalMan.

SORRY, but can't help or comment on who may (or may not) call who what in such circles; have no experience whatsoever on the subject.

But are you using "lady" to mean any (adult) female of the human species?

I thought that that is frowned upon by the PC brigade and that you should use "woman" to mean that?
Does "lady" indicates a particular class status?  :)

I find that the terms woman/women also has a particular perjorative meaning in respect of an adult female as also does the use of the term girl/girls (often used for women up to anywhere around 35 to 40) and spinster.  Female does not have these perjorative meanings but sounds cold and clinical.

In any case I am not a member of the Politically Correct brigade so prefer to use this description and also to commit other heracies the PC crowd would not approve of such as sending cards that say Happy Christmas rather than Seasons Greetings.

Lady is preferable to Girl since it does not apply an assumption about age other than that the person concerned is female and at least 18 years old.

For the avoidance of doubt, I agree with you on all of the above - I was merely playing 'Devil's Advocate' (and going somewhat off topic!).
Is 'Devil's Advocate' a PI (Politically Incorrect) term?  I do hope so!

... to the best of my knowledge those ceremonies are not marriages and the persons so joined are still civil law partners and not a husband or wife.

That is also my understanding.

"Devil's Advocate" must surely be politically incorrect since it would imply a belief in a religion in which the existence of heaven and hell is taken for granted. :-X

Devil's Advocate

(dĕv’әlz ăd’vә-kāt) n. - One who argues against a popular cause or position, not as a committed opponent but simply to make people discuss and consider it in more detail.

But I thought it is politically correct NOT to bring religion into things, which is why I suggested that "Devil's Advocate" is perhaps politically incorrect!

My comments should have read that Devils Advocate is politically incorrect due to the reliance of the concept on religious beliefs.

Thanks for the correction - I did wonder whether it was a typo, but thought that it may be politically incorrect to suggest that!  ;D
