Can you explain how downloading the software to your computer gives you free calls on the phone?

It is a VoIP (or voice-over IP) service. That means it works over the internet as opposed to a telephone line. So you need your computer on to use it.

You will need to buy €5 of credits to use it otherwise it times out after a minute. Bah :-/

Wasn't there another VoIP provider which asked for less in terms of an 'initial credit' for unlimited use of the service?
