Who has 'told' you to ring a transport company? How come they haven't told you which company this is? Why do you need to contact them urgently?

Well Googling this number reveals that it is Initial City Link in Plymouth (courtesy of 192.com):

Initial City Link
UNIT 8 PHOENIX BUSINESS PARK
ESTOVER ROAD
PLYMOUTH DEVON
PL6 7PY

A Google of the 0870 also reveals a website which suggests that this is City Link.

Tell me which website link is that Dave ?? I have searched everywhere for the 0870 & cannot find it.
How tigger_willow managed to find a link to the 01752 696495 number I'd love to know  :-X
Is he from the Plymouth area ??

Every reference I get for Initial City Link, Plymouth ONLY gives the 01752 696495 number, and even their own website shows it with NO 0870, which is why it is in our database as NONE under the 0870 ! There are also numerous other references there showing NONE for exactly the same reason.

Give me reasons and show me links, but then tell me why NONE of the directories show them with an 0870 !?  :-/

Slight problem between the 1st and the 2nd, 3rd & 4th 0870's provided by

Can anyone enlighten us as to which one we're supposed to be looking for please ??

Could it be anything to do with 0870 240 2436 mentioned at this link ??

It's on this page. Not very convincing on its own, but when the geographical number was posted, I figured that there would have to be something in it.

tigger_willow, can you come back and fill in some of the blanks for us?

When you said that you had been 'told' to ring a courier company on that number I suspected it might have been a scam, like this one. You haven't given us any other information to go on. Have you ordered something, as that would be the most obvious reason for contacting a transportation company? If so, what and from where??

Hi

I found this thread as I was too looking for an alternative for this number as it is always engaged.

In my case and I'm guessing similar for the OP I was given the number for a collection of a laptop to go back under warrenty. Just told to ring the number and quote the reference number they gave me and it would be collected. Luckely as I deal with couriers a lot I asked which company and was told it was Initial City Link - I went to their website and rang the local branch and got through first time.

Cheers

CHRIS

I tried ringing 0870 240 4236 for days and it was permenantly engaged and it was reallly annoying me..in fact I am going to complain to Acer about it as all I wanted to do was return my faulty laptop!!

The above number is right. I rang initial city link and quoted account number 902338 and they gave me the above number.

Where did the 0870 number come from? I'm confused. Did Acer give you the 0870 number, but Initial CityLink no longer us it? In that case, I suggest you complain to Acer that the number they are giving is out of date.

If CityLink only use a geographical number now, and that's the only one advertised, then isn't that what we want? I don't see any need to complain about the 0870 number not working!

hi folks,

i just had to contact City Link as i got the number from acer.  after googling it, the first result was this site, so to help people googling it in future, i called my local number and they told me to contact

01752 696 495

who seemed to be a city link headquarters and got it sorted straight away.

hope this saves anyone anymore hassle - perhaps someone should let acer know that city link have changed their number!

all the best!

I had the same problem with a laptop to return, I finally managed to get to Customer service who explaned the problem:

Initial City Link have not changed their number, the problem is that they are forwarding all calls to the plymouth branch which only has one or two operators working for the acer account, this meaning that they are swamped with calls.

the geographical number is 01752 696 495
Citylink Main Office 01932 822622

Acer can actually book in deliverys themselves, but they for some reason don't

That is the Story!

Hello chaps. Thought I'd check in and report what I've found today (for I also have a machine to go back to Acer).

If you assumed you could phone your local branch of City Link, forget it. The Cardiff branch had no idea what the hell I was on about.

The Plymouth branch - number as listed here - answered quickly and dealt with me brilliantly. But, well, so much for all the branches being connected and it being seamless, seeing as it's a Cardiff van that's collecting it.

Anyway, the non-geog number... I suspect Acer have decided to give a non-geog to their local City Link branch, so that they can cream the extra that they don't make from keeping you on hold for hours... the sort of sneaky practise that keeps their prices down the rest of the time [smiley=shocked.gif]

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on this.

I called the 0870 number, briefly!! It answers saying that it's Initial City Link and goes on to say "to make a booking or find out more about our service" hold. So no clue that it's for Acer customers, so maybe it just goes through to the Initial City Link call centre.  :-/
