Title: 01 or 02 dial through/access number Post by greggy on Jan 23rd, 2006 at 11:31pm
sorry if this has been discussed before im a newbie, my mercury contract on my mobile phne only allows 01 or 02 landlines and xnet numbers to be used in my 200 free minutes, is there any 01 or 02 call through numbers (similar to the simplyphone one) that i can call 0845 and 0870 numbers

Greggy
Have a look at www.18185.co.uk and specifically at the pale blue box two-thirds down the first column "Great benefits for non BT-callers as well! Mobile users ... click here". I think 18185 currently offer about the cheapest access to 0845 & 0870 numbers. You have to register with them first and give them credit card details, but that is quick & easy. You are billed only for the calls you make. You can register your landline number as well if you want. In my experieince (and from other messages on this site) their billing and debiting is very reliable. Hope this is of use. |

I don't know anything about simplyphone and you didn't give a web address :(
(I looked at simplyphone.co.uk but that simply gives a list of other websites). So I'm not clear what you're after. :( The 02 access number for 18185 is a normal geo number (and hence can be within your free minutes), but the onward 0845 or 0870 call isn't free - why would it be? If you want individual geo numbers for specific 0845/0870 numbers then search for them on this site. |

sory mate the address is http://simply-fone.com there access number is 07744974404 but it dosnt come under my 200 free minutes my contract is with mercurymobiles.com and it runs off tmobile network and only o2 and orange allow it to be used in there inclusive free minutes. with that 02 number on that site you have to register the number with your debit card details and its a 4p connection charge pluss so much a minute, so am i looking in vain to find afree 02 or 01 phone through/access number to phone 0845 numbers?..

Greggy your be searching in vain, how would the supplier of these access numbers if they were to exist and they dont, make any money? Also if they did exist dont you think every landline user would be using them to call 0845/0870 numbers at geo rates or for free out of their inclusive packages, rather then pay the normal excessively high 0845/0870 NGN rates.
If you need to call Freephone 0800/0808 numbers which i believe Mercury charge for as well. You might find that one of these little known dial through access numbers works from T-Mob.They are 0200 222 0700 or 0200 222 0900.((IF they allow access they will only work to Freephone Numbers). Also have a look at www.pre-dial.com click on free destination list your see a 02 dial through access number 07730 666 890.,which you will be able to use out of x-net minutes as its a proper o2 number. It only works E&W but it might ?just allow you to call 0845/0870 it does say UK National. |

Its not strictly free because you pay for the inclusive minutes to ring it.

and yet he says here that it doesn't: greggy wrote on Jan 24th, 2006 at 8:34am:
which is why he's looking for something else. I've given up because I'm not clear what he wants - and the 02 access numbers you & I have previously suggested are equally 'free'. But as you've said, bigjohn, it's probably in vain. Greggy, you're likely to have to pay for the 0845 / 0870 calls one way of another: - whether you pay for the access number and then get 'free' onward transmission; or - whether you get a 'free' (i.e. within inclusive minutes) access number and then pay for the onward transmission. "You don't get nothing for free in this world, mate!" |

I think that bigjohn was pointing out that the inclusive minutes to 01/02 numbers are not free. I think that Greggy is after a 01/02 dialthrough number to call 0845/0870 numbers with inclusive minutes. I doubt you'd find one, as bigjohn points out, because there is no way any provider could make it pay and everyone would use it from landlines. I guess that the 07744 number must generate revenue to pay for such calls, reguardless of whether it comes out of inclusive minutes or not. |

il try to explain again im after a access number that i can phone 0845 numbers for insrance 08456094343 (intelligent finance bank which i phone regulaly) the number at simply-fone dosnt come out of my inlusive minutes so im loking for something else. maybe i missread that site i was given because i thought it said its a 4p connection charge to ring that 02 number pluss so much a minute, is that right? if it s how can it be equaly as free as the number i put up...

Ah! I think what you're really after is the geographical for the establishment concerned, rather than a third party 'dial-through' number. Their is a thread for IF.com here which lists some geographical numbers.

Trevord .
How the 07744 loophole works is that Orange,O2,and Virgin Contract Mobile Networks allow you to call these access numbers out of your cross network minutes. However T-Mob,Voda,and 3 charge to ring them. These numbers allow you to call various destinations depending on the particular supplier. My point is that although the dial through supplier does not charge for the call. You ctually do pay for it because the inclusive minutes you use usually cost you something.Eg Lets say you get 200 minutes x-net calls for £30 a month, each of those calls would cost you 15p a minute. |

Yes, I think you did misunderstand it. 1. To access 18185, you call the 02 number from your mobile (which will be charged by your mobile company, or come out of your free minutes). (Alternatively you can access it free from a BT line by simply dialling 18185.) 2. You then dial the 0845 number your want. 18185 will charge you for that at 4p connection, plus 3p/min weekdays or 1p/min weekends. (0870 numbers are 4p or 2p respectively.) That is about the cheapest that you will find for dialling an 0845 or 0870 number from a landline or mobile. But I agree with Dave that if you can bypass using an 0845/0870 number by using a direct alternative geographic number for that specific 0845/0870 number, then that is the best option. That's what I meant when I said earlier: trevord wrote on Jan 24th, 2006 at 12:29am:
But if you can't find a specific alternative number and have to use an 0845/0870 number, then use indirect dialling via 18185 or one of the services that bigjohn suggested. |

bigjohn,
Thanks for the explanation (which i saw after my above message). I got confused because, in one place: greggy wrote on Jan 24th, 2006 at 8:34am:
but in another place: greggy wrote on Jan 24th, 2006 at 10:46am:
I now realise that what he meant is that dialling the 0774 number is not free (or more correctly, not within his included minutes) with his supplier, but the onward call to the final destination is 'free', i.e. not charged separately. Whereas what I was proposing gave him a 'free' (included minutes) first part to the dial-through company, but a charged second part. I also got confused because initially he referrd to "simplyphone", not "simply-fone". But I agree that if you are with a company that will let you use 0744 within your included minutes, then you seem to be onto a good deal. I can see why people refer to their included minutes as 'free' because if they don't/rarely use all of them, they are paying no extra than what they would otherwise pay. Anyway, I hope we've all helped greggy enough now - enough options to work out what's best for him! |

yeh youve been a lot of help thanks, altough some things im still confused about, ive no idea what geo numbers are lol as i said im a newbie here , so that 02 number would be free to dial (come out of my inclusive minutes) but then they would charge you for putting you through think ive grasped that now, btw i pay about 3.75 per month for the 200 mins had to pay it up front though paid 90 quid and got a free phone and ive got the 200 mins a mo.nth for 2 years

Geographical numbers relate to a geographical location and they all start with 01 and 02, eg 0114 for Sheffield, 020 for London etc. Thus, numbers starting 01 and 02 are geographical ones. Quote:
Yes, you are correct. But if you are calling IF.com, you should look at the numbers I have provided a link to. |
Title: Re: 01 or 02 dial through/access number Post by bigjohn on Jan 25th, 2006 at 4:31pm
If you are dialling the www.pre-dial.com 02 access number out of your inclusive x-net minutes yes it would come out of your x-net allowance, but NO they would not charge you for putting you through. The charging of a call cant be changed in mid flight!!!.
Your provider could of course start charging for call if you run out of inclusive minutes. I have read on another site you can call 0845 numbers through it,but not 0870. |
