No I just thought someone might know a landline number for this. I assumed that is what this site is about!!!

Well, I suppose that someone who will know will probably work at Lloyds TSB. ::) Please read the instructions, we do not have crystal balls that tells us what department this number goes to. There is no mathematical formula that comes up with the geographical number this NGN goes to. It is a case of plain old detective work based on information found usually on the internet. You provide no information, so how can/why would anyone help you if you can't help them? |

Often numbers are advertised as specific, but turn out to cover different departments and someone may have found that department through another route. Now, was that nice enough? :) |

So far I can't find the number offered by Johnny debt, but then if he can't offer any info, why should I be bothered?
However, Lloyds have this little page that would help us all. They offer their own geo numbers for those ringing from abroad alongside the UK based ripoff numbers. So whoever is in charge of updating the database, please check here for any possible extra numbers. http://www.lloydstsb.com/contact_us/useful_phone_numbers.asp |

OK so I took the plunge for the benefit of our over neurotic newbie, and to stop his whining and bitching. I rung the number. What the heck, 0870 numbers are in my call plan.
Johnny Debt is quite the appropriate name, considering the number goes to the Lloyds bank collection centre. So you've effectively told us you are in trouble with the bank, and obviously have been for a couple of months. Don't take your anxiety out on us, you got in the mire with your finances, you sort it out. A 3 second call straight away told me the department of Lloyds. Was it really so difficult for you to provide such basic info? Info here http://www.cca.org.uk/standards/prof_accredited.asp says that the call centre is based in brighton but another site says they are thinking of moving to india, no surprise there! Google for Lloyds tsb in brighton brings up a few numbers, but to be honest, I can't be bothered to look for them, or supply you any further info. It cuts both ways. NOT a very nice man |

Hey what a fantastic response! If I had any other information I would have given it.
"a very nice man", how clever you are, you rang the number and then assumed that I am in debt because you linked it with Johnny Debt. I wonder if it even crossed your mind that I may be helping people who are in debt? Wow at this rate I will have 5 stars like the rest, and still no answer to my question. |

You clearly DID have some other information - where the number came from; why you were needing to ring it; etc.. Such as this information: Johnny Debt wrote on Feb 21st, 2006 at 6:24am:
You could have told us that. You could have rung it briefly, like a very nice man nicely did for you. We are not clairvoyants. If you can't be bothered to help us, why should we help you. We don't have access to any special information or lists that you don't have access to - maybe just experience of where to look. People do this in their own time at their own expense - so stop being so belligerent and try co-operating if you want some help and advice. Johnny Debt wrote on Feb 21st, 2006 at 6:24am:
Well a very nice man has given you some clues: a very nice man wrote on Feb 21st, 2006 at 12:26am:
Why don't you try that instead of expecting everything on a plate. ... And if you asked nicely, instead of belligerently, people might be more inclined to help you. As someone else said: a very nice man wrote on Feb 21st, 2006 at 12:26am:

Good to see how a simple question and lack of experience has such a backlash.
I just thought that someone may actually know this number and able to convert it. I was also looking at another thread, asking the question why this site has fewer visitors. Mmmm I have to wonder is it because some posters would rather chastise someone for a mistake? About as friendly as a dose of Syphilys! |

We ask for as much information as possible because it helps us to help you.
Remember none of us get paid and we all do this in our own free time and of our own free will. When you create a post or respond to a post, in red it reads, "Please click here to read the 'Guide to finding geographical numbers'.... What we do with all the information we get is do a google search amongst other things. From just the 0870 on its own, it is not always possible to determine which dept or even company that use that 0870. For example, providing an address means we can do a more indepth search which may increase the odds of finding the geographical number linked to the 0870. Your post is by no means the only post we get which has very limited information on it. In fact there have been occasions that we just get the 0870 with no other information. All this lack of information doesn't help us and I'm sure you can appreciate that if we only got one or two posts with hardly any information on it then it would be different but we actually get a lot of posts without any information as well so after a while we get fed up of trying to help people who cant read the red text, not to mention the sticky threads, or even respond to our posts for more information, as is the case here. As mentioned in an earlier post, there is no connection between a 0870 and a geographical like a database or something we could use. Its all done via google, 192.com and a few other searches. These searches we do often can take a lot of time hence reason why we ask for as much info as possible. Trust me when I say that if you helped other forum members out with searching for geographicals like other forum members here do, then you would also (after a while) feel the same about people posting and in some cases asking for a miracle from just a 0870 (or other non-geographical number) without as much info as possible like addresses/website, etc. |

If it wasn't in the datbase, then the chances were no-one knew it, which is why you were asked for more info. Johnny Debt wrote on Feb 21st, 2006 at 3:33pm:
It wasn't the simple question or the lack of experience that prompted the backlash, it was your attitude when you were asked for more info: - the fact that you seemed to think the instructions were there for anyone but you; - the fact that you're asking us to be nice to you Johnny Debt wrote on Feb 20th, 2006 at 9:41pm:
- but you're not nice back; - the fact that you clearly had other information but refused to share it; - the fact that when A.V.N.M. gave you an indication of where to look, you just ignored that and moaned about his assumption - which he might not have made had you told us more about the number in the first place! - the fact that you seem to think that everyone should play to your tune, but you won't accommodate us; - the fact that you don't seem to want to help us to help you! >:( >:( >:( |

"a very nice man" I have got to ask; are you a debt collector or bailiff?? Your attitude is so well suited to that trade. I would like to hope so, cos it really annoys them when I wipe out peoples debt. I don't suppose when you rang the 0870 number, you asked them what the geo number was? Putting the claws away now. |

I have never had a problem with A.V.N.M (heck thats what im gonna call him now), hes always been helpful on here to people that help us in the first place.
But what gets our backs up is the people that a) give us just a number b) the bare minimum c) add useless numbers to the unverified list (people like me have to verify all of them) d) the attitude of the response to our response. Were not being paid to help you find the GN number. Hey now thats an idea, charge £10 an hour per number request, and searching costs. We will soon get the info we request if your paying for it. |

It appears to me that some people on this site think it a chore to supply information, and bang on about how they do it for free.
I made a simple request and a mistake and now am being chastised for this. "a very nice man" the wisest of them all, must have taken great pleasure in announcing to the whole forum that I was in debt and so many months behind. What if I had been in debt, and just desperate to find out what this number was and what they wanted? Every day I have to talk to "avery nice man" (creditor) and each day I take my clients a step closer to being debt free. So when my email tells me there is another post, I smile and look to see who/what is said. The Internet is a wonderful tool to hide behind; you are able to pretend that you are big and tough when really a some are mice in charge of a mouse! This site needs more people like "bbb_uk" who see the real problem and take the time to explain. That is where solutions come from. Looking forward to my next notification. |

I think you have a point. Some people are newcomers to any internet forum, not just this one in particular, and take a bit of time to find their way around all the information, in this case including pinned threads with advice on helping yourself and others with new queries.
I was more fortunate than you with an early query I made - it was totally ignored. In the end I found the information myself and posted it on the thread and to the database. In that case it was Microsoft, which nominally is in Reading, but the technical support handling is in Dublin. I could have copied the blatant cynicism of some members here in listing an 0844 number instead of the Irish one, earning commission on what is effectively affiliate spam, but that should not be what the site is about. On another thread here, someone is asking why the quality or quantity of discussion on here is falling away. I think the gratuitous and cliquish rudeness that you and others have experienced might just be something to do with it. |

andy9 many thanks for those comments. I do use other forums and I have to say they are more welcoming and forgiving.
I have a link to this site on my blogg, and despite the hassle I will keep it on my blogg. This site certainly is excellent in what it provides. I also recommend it to all my clients, because for some, every penny really does count. |
