According to them they dont have a "landline" number which we know to be complete TOSH !

I do know that there numbers start with 0151 637 ????

I have been told the following, and I quote

"The direct dial is 0870 - this is a landline national telephone number"

Their website doesnt help either at http://www.carpenters-law.co.uk/intro.html


Does anyone know the Geographical number for them.

I’ve looked on the Law Society web site and also in the 2005 Butterworth’s Directory, both of which give the 0870 phone same number.

If you are a prospective client (personally injury?) why not e mail that and say that you would like to use them but you never deal with organisations who use NGN’s.  I’m sure that no self respecting solicitor would be able to resist that.  If they do, I suggest that you use another firm.

A check of 192.com reveals only the 0870 numbers.

Looking back at their website on Internet Archive shows that they adopted 0870 numbers in 2002. The earliest link takes us back to 25 May 2002, and the homepage shows 0870s. Strangely, by clicking on links on that page, it goes back to February 2002 with the 0151 number mentioned by Crabtree. It also has a fax of 0151 666 1825 and "RTA Fax" of 0151 647 0124.

IAVOID0870, how do you know that they have numbers starting 0151 637xxxx?

Do they have many 0870 numbers, ie one for each person? If so, they may map straight to geographicals. Eg 0870 1234xxx -> 0151 9876xxx

Hello to one and all, and thannks for all your help so far.......

To cut a long story short, I have been involved in a "non-fault" road traffic accident and Carpenters are the solicitors appointed by my insurance company to recover costs from the 3rd party and to recover personal injury costs for me, so I dont really have much choice over the use of these Solicitors.

With regards to the question about how do I know for sure, that their number starts with 0151 637 ???? this is because when I found out that they were to be the chosen solicitors for my case I emailed them about 6 times (various partners) from their site and stated that I CANT call 0870 numbers from my phone and could they provide me with a landline, of which only ONE of them did.

I have called this proper landline number (it does work) but unfortunately it goes direct to one of the partners and not the person dealing with my case and that person is getting rather humpy with me for keep on disturbing one of the partners directly and refusing to call them directly on their own 0870 number.

This company has loads of 0870 numbers all shown on the website, All I really want is the GEO number for the switchboard or the person dealing with my case - but the partner advises me that he geniunely cant remember it but could only remember is own number.

After I read that numbers follow I have worked it out and tried and tested and it WORKS !

Their main NGN number is 0870 990 3580

replace with 0151 637 34** (last two digits of the 0870 number)


So in this case their main number is 0151 637 3480

Are you joking? When you speak to a solicitor in person they are charging you the "real life" equivalent of an 0870 number in the form of their fees! I can't see them worrying about 0870 numbers.  ;D

Further to IAVOID0870's post above about numbers 0870 99035xx mapping to 0151 63734xx, I have discovered that the main number, 0870 7801870 is in fact 0151 6373400. I have added this to the database.
