I have just had an e-mail circular sent to me from the Office of Communications (OFCOM), and was surprised to see how they have used 0845 numbers .... it looks as if they are agree with this site.

This how they advised of their contact details

Phone: 020 7981 3040 (this number will be the cheapest option for most callers)
or 0845 456 3000 (this number may be cheaper for callers on the BT Light User Scheme calling from outside the London area)

Fax: 020 7981 3334 (this number will be the cheapest option for most callers)
or 0845 456 3333 (this number may be cheaper for callers on the BT Light User Scheme calling from outside the London area)

Probably not many BT Light User Scheme customers are likely to use a fax machine, but full marks to OFCOM

Ahem. I hate to point out that for a very long time OFTEL and then Ofcom used to only show an 0845 number for their Contact Centre which they misleadingly described as "local call rate".

It was only after complaints by myself that they grudgingly added the geographic number and later still added the statements indicating that most people other than BT Light User Scheme customers would be better off using the geographic phone number. Essentially they would never have done so had it not been for complaints from other members of this website.

As to Ofcom being on our side.  No sorry definitely not.  The Light Touch or Out of Touch Ofcom are the primary reason why the viral like 084/7 scam has now reached such epidemic and out of control proportions. >:( >:( >:(
