Having had 2 parcels go astray in one month thanks to our wonderful Royal Mail delivery system, in order to speak to someone to determine what has happened, you have to ring 0845 927 2100 to 'track and trace' parcels sent by recorded delivery, or 0845 700 1200 for items sent by 'special delivery'.
You are mucked about for a fair ength of time while some 'robot tries to decipher the serial number of your record slip, until it finally gives up and hands you over to a human. There does not appear to be any appropriate geographical alternatives shown on this site so far. Does anyone know what these numbers are please. |

For the Special Delivery number, 0845 7001200 there is a thread running here and in the database (unverified):
01752 387148, 01752 387149 and 01752 387150 Automated Track & Trace Facility |

Can confirm that the geographical no. for Track & Trace works and is normally answered within seconds by someone very helpful as I recently had a late delivery and used it. Of course, I got the geog no from this site as I was not prepared to call 0845! Don't try emailing them though because they just reply asking for the info you have already given then you have to post in your Proof of Posting but at least if you call the geog no they give you a FREEPOST address.

Title: Post Office tracking Post by mogerts on Apr 1st, 2008 at 10:35am
I needed to track a 'special delivery' letter with the Post Office. Their given number was 08459272100 so I used Saynoto0870 site to find alternative numbers. ie 01752387157 and 0175238155 but I was informed that these numbers were not available and was cut off.
It seems that the post office has terminated these numbers, so that we have to use the 08459 number. My phone package with Sky gives me unlimited 24/7 free calls (except for the 087 etc. numbers). I have sent a similar message to Saynoto0870.com contact board. (incidentally the Post Offrice offers an on-line website to track deliveries of special deliveries, but this was oversubscribed, and not available!) Mogerts |

Why do you want to telephone them?
If you want to track a package this is the easiest route to go.. http://track.royalmail.com/portal/rm/track?catId=22700601&gear=authentication |

I had to phone them because their online service for tracking was too busy and was out of service. I did mention this in my original message. I will try the link you have given to see if this is more succdessful. Thank you. Mogerts

As you can see, we have been here before. We did have some working numbers and they have changed them. |

What about the Royal Mail's two "International" numbers currently shown on their website:- 01752 387112 01226 782503 See www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400144&mediaId=5400002 I used one of these two successfully a couple of weeks ago to check on whether a new number displayed in this road had been legitimately allocated and was recognised by the Royal Mail. One of the International numbers said they couldn't help and tried to get me to call the 0845 but the other one seemed to offer their full range of customer services, including enquiries on this particular subject. But note its the Royal Mail's tracking service you are using, even though you paid for it at a Post Office branch. At least they insist on pretending they run two companies even though they only have one board of directors and one lousy standard policy on trying to use 0845 numbers for everything. :o >:( |

I called 01752 387112 today and got straight through to someone who gave me the answer to my Track & Trace query immediately. (The web site is not working - before you ask)
