Title: 0871 9 10 10 10 missed call scam?
Post by shlomp on Apr 5th, 2006 at 1:31pm
To the user mc661,

Hi. May I ask why I received a call from the number you have listed in you signature? It seemed to me to be one of those "only ring for a couple of times so the victim calls back. What with my mobile number registered with FPS, I would really like to know how you got my number and why I received the missed call.

Thanks in advance.

THIS in your signature,

I used to be sandco
Ask me for Bank Branch Numbers - need Sort Code tho.
Wanna Call me? 0871 5 208 208 or 0871 9 10 10 10
Calls cost 10p per min at all times!!!

which has suddenly dissapeared overnight, so here's the link to google's cache of it.

Google's cached version

As for looking into the number, your signature was the only thing that came up in a search engine!

So how come, even after that statement, you left it until now to remove the number from your sig?

Hmmm, interesting.

The properties of mc661's webpage show that it is about a week old, so hardly ancient history, and it says

Quote:
We are currently using 08715 208 208 as our main contact number

To manufacture an absurd three-way mixed metaphor, it would appear that some people have put a foot in both pies.

Perhaps we could be spared the monotonous ranting against premium rate numbers from people who are actually using them to exploit others.

In the same way, perhaps the practice of other members in placing 0844 affiliate numbers in the database should be identified as spam.

I see my post has mysteriously disappeared.

I'll insert it again.

I recall mc661 admitting that he is a politician of some sort.

I wonder which party?

Labour - see http://www.steveandcompany.co.uk/, which currently refers to the West Norfolk Labour Party (altho' the news on the page may change).

Also, Steve and Company Group share an address with the West Norfolk Labour Party (whose website is down at the time of writing).
mc661 has previously referred to "The Company which supplies our telephones for my local party (hapens to be in the same building)" and there was a Steve and Company (Telecoms).

No definitive proof - but it points that way.  :-?
