Cheers, Ali

Well the link did show a variety of 0845 and 0800 numbers, but we do not know why you want to contact fresh, or the company through which you signed up - all of which information helps people to assist.

The 0870 number is the only one fresh mobile provide, for contacting their customer service - either to top up, or check balances etc.

I was hoping someone had an alternative, as I hate 0870 no.s, whether it is from my landline, or mobile.

They charge 15p a minute to call 0870 from a Fresh Mobile.

Onetel charge 7.51p a min peak to call 0870.

for info, there were a couple of numbers on the unverified list here

ie 0208 8965000 - and ask to be transfered to fresh - used this today and it works fine.

also 0800 0490800 - endless loop, so can't verify!

I wonder if someone could help a newbie here. I was enquiring about an alternative number for Fresh Mobile to check my balance from a landline and stumbled across this thread. I tried the freephone 0800 number listed but conveniently enough it couldn't verify my phone. (could be temporary will try later) What I would like to know is how much does it cost to call the 0208 number from a BT landline?

Also on this part of their website they say that they're 0870 111 5000 number is a freephone one is this possible or true?

Thank You and please bear with me I'm new here :-[

If the freephone number asks for a mobile number then just ignore it a few times because on some systems they still put you through.  Some are rude though and just hang up on you.  The cost of calling a 01 or 02 number known as geographical numbers will cost a 3ppm from a BT landline daytime, and 5.5p for an hour during the evening & weekend.  Other landline providers generally charge less than BT unless you're on a NTL/Telewest landline.  Also, if you have an all-inclusive calling package then the call will be free again depending on type of package and time of day you call.

Nope, an 0870 number is NOT free and that is misleading for Fresh/TalkTalk/Carephoneware to mention that.  An 0870 costs 7.5ppm daytime (again from a BT landline).  Other networks generally charge more than BT for 084x/087x calls and in some cases it can cost upto 40ppm from a mobile.

Makes you wonder whether them stating that it is a free phone number is legal or not. I'm not too happy about that actually.

It's not legal at all but because it is just on their website then the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) can't investigate which means reporting it to Trading Standards.  All that will happen then is that Fresh will say that its an oversight and they forgot to change the wording and remove reference to the word "free".  Which it probably is to be honest because Fresh/TalkTalk/Carphonewarehouse used one or two freephone numbers in the past but have since moved them all to 0870 and as far as I'm aware nowhere else do they state that 0870 is free - they don't mention the call costs at all normally.

Hmmm.....I'm not to bothered because i know now that an 0870 number is not freephone but someone else won't. I suppose that is a downside to the cheap calls offered on fresh mobile, you have to pay to check your balance. >:(
