Title: Unknown number - 0870 2243400 Post by soccergoods on Apr 27th, 2006 at 4:11pm
Does anyone know what company is behind this number? 08702243400 got a call that I missed on the mobile and don't want to call it back before I know who they are.
Thanks, Soccergoods ~ Thread title edited by Dave |

I am sure that, if it is important, they will call you back.
If merely a scam for income to them they will hope that you will call them - on your mobile, of course... |

I keep receiving calls from 0870 224 3400 at home. (Pretty much 4 or 5 times a day). Being naturally suspicious I called the number from work.
Essentially I am greeted with "Your call is being handled by 'Audix'. Extension 4200 is unavailable and you cannot leave a message as their mailbox is full". I have tried searching everywhere for this number and I keep drawing a blank. Does anyone else know who these people are as it's driving my wife and I nuts !! |

A check reveals that the number was originally allocated by a company called Gamma Telecom. You could try (be nice though) and see if they can tell you which company, as far as they're records tell, uses that number.
Note - they don't have to tell you and due to number portability Gamma Telecom may not now be the company that owns (not uses) that number. |

This is exactly what is happening to me and I am tearing my hair out now! Every half an hour they call my mobile then my landline, no one is there when I answer and I too recently applied for a loan. :( |

There's an obvious theme starting.
Could ehad74 & m1nnle please post the name of the company they used for the loan application? |

And could any other members tell us if they have applied for a loan and what company? The fact that they are ringing landline and mobile suggests that it's a company who you've given both to, rather than someone dialling numbers at random. |

It was an online company called accepted.co.uk
I dont actually remember saying they had my permission to pass my details on to other companies, as this is what I think has happened. Do they need my permission to do this, as I am now getting calls from America, which is highly unusual. |

As for your personal details being passed on then that depends on what options they presented you with when you signed-up!? Sometimes it can be, 'tick here if you agree for us to share your details...', or 'tick here if you don't agree for us to share your details...' Companies these days have a habit of changing it so it maybe you needed to tick to say you did agree for them to share your details or you needed to tick to say you didn't agree for them to share your details. Even if you specifically ticked not to receive any junk mail or for them to pass your details on then its nearly impossible to prove that they did as they will never admit to it! |

Any idea how to stop them calling? I am already signed up for the TPS, but as no one is there when I pick up I cant tell them to stop!

You could ring Ofcom for advice (state you think they are using Automated Calling Equipment and explain everything they've been doing). Personally though, don't expect to much from Ofcom as they have a habit of not caring much saying they don't want to use their powers (regulations) or pass the buck. |

When you applied, did you check the web address and the padlock at the bottom of the screen to make sure it was a secure server?
A quick llook at their site shows For loan enquiries contact Central Capital: Central Capital Ltd 1 Le Marchant Street, St Peter Port Guernsey GY1 4HP Tel: 08000 515 516 Email: customerservice@accepted.co.uk For business enquiries related to the website: Netbasic Limited 9 Funtley Court Funtley Hill Fareham Hants PO16 7UY Tel: 01329 820 862 No obvious american link Maybe their pages have been attacked by a program to trawl for numbers. They are owned by Central Capital, who have offices in Norwich and Watford. Googling does not produce an american link. Next, what is the american number you are receiving? Aspo - What have you done financially different recently? |

I didnt check for the secured logo , no.
When the number 0870 2243400 calls my mobile it comes up with +44, when I call it back it has an American automated message.....but I daren't listen to it all in case it is dialing some far off country and scamming me. |

This is a recorded message saying that "Your call is being answered by Audix." This doesn't mean that the call is being forwarded to America, it just means that the answering machine system that this company uses is American. |
Title: Re: Unknown number - 0870 2243400 Post by a very nice man on May 10th, 2006 at 4:39pm
Surely an 0870 would not come up with prefix +44.
It's an English number to an English service (I assume) I've had them before and the caller display just shows the 0870 Possibly the return call you make is diverted to america, but then that would be at there expense, not yours. Your costing would be to the 0870 only. |
Title: Re: Unknown number - 0870 2243400 Post by ehad74 on May 10th, 2006 at 4:44pm
The number came up as +448702243400 on my mobile, but as 08702243400 on my land line....I have no idea why!

Title: Re: Unknown number - 0870 2243400 Post by Tanllan on May 10th, 2006 at 4:48pm
Many mobiles translate it automatically to the international +44.
At least it was correct; some French networks, when roaming in Geneva, show UK incoming calls as +4444 - a double warning that the UK is calling. |

Ok guys well i have finally found out who the company is that has been driving me insane, they called me and i answered and gave them a telling off to be fair it wasnt the person at the end of the phones fault, then they proceeded to phone me again <sigh> so i was not a happy bunny and told them what i thought, and told them that i reported them to the tps and they could get fined for drop calling me, they didnt seem to like that very much lol
any way who is this company i hear you scream, it is a company call quick decision loans who i think are a subsidurau of ocean finance ( i phoned them too and told them how irked i was) and i have theyre telephone number it is 08709799500 this number you will get to speak to a human being and hopefully that will put an end to it all I hope this has been of some help to you all xx |

It may be worth pointing out that some of the loan companies mentioned in this thread have 800 numbers published on their web sites. Of course it would be irresponsible of me to suggest calling such numbers once, let alone multipile times as the recipient has to bear the cost of such a call, nevertheless it may be worthwhile letting these companies know just how you feel and to see if they are having a nice day.
Here in the US, calling toll-free numbers from a pay-phone ensures that the call recipient has to bear an even greater cost for the incoming call. I do not know whether the same rationale applies in the UK, but something to bear in mind too. |

Would that be the same Ocean Finance that has this info...
Ocean Finance and Mortgages Limited Pacific House Relay Point Tamworth Staffordshire B77 5BR Call Free - 24 hours a day 0800 916 9186 Having looked at, and got, an 0800 number, I can tell you that the minimum charge THEY RECEIVE is 2p per min for all the time you're on the phone. I can assume that if they just pick up the phone to find no-one there, and wouldn't that be annoying after a while, they would still be charged a connection fee. A point to make is that as with 0870, the number goes to a landline, so the use of 141 would be advised. Not that anyone would do this sort of thing surely? Oh sorry, they do. So do unto others as you'd like to be done unto you. Otherwise called getting your revenge in first! |
