Welcome.

Please provide as much information as possible as mentioned in this thread.

Things like 0845/0870 number, website, address, fax number (if a normal geographical number).

Thanks.

There is a number for the people based in South Yorkshire. Perhaps it is the one you're after, but without better info then googling "Phoenix travel" & Yorkshire gives

Phoenix Travel
8, Longley Crescent, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S5 7NZ
Tel: 07773 024931
Classification:
Mini Bus Hire

Found on Yell.com

What are you after? Travel agent, minibus, taxi, ???????

The address for Phoenix Travel is Orchard Cottages, North Frodingham, Driffield, East Yorkshire - it is a coach travel company.

For some reason, the name Phoenix is extremely popular in yorkshire. Making life awkward.

Orchard Cottages are numbered 1 - 8.
2 Orchard Cottages, their listed address, is the private home of P. & V. Webster.
They're a small outfit because it was a bit difficult to find a reference, except in local advertising.

Bt, UK Info and 192 have no listing.
118118.com lists 15 Websters within 5 miles. But obviously not the one we want.
Looks like they are ex directory, and the 0870 is all that's listed.
So unless you know their mother............

I found this PDF on the VOSA website.

Quote:
PB1054108 SI VICTORIA ELLEN WEBSTER
(1955) 2 ORCHARD COTTAGES, MAIN STREET, NORTH FRODINGHAM
DRIFFIELD YO25 8LG
Operating Centre: UNIT 73, KELLEYTHORPE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE,
KELLYTHORPE DRIFFIELD YO25 9DJ
Authorisation: 2 Vehicle(s).
Transport Manager(s): DAVID KEITH WOOD

This comes under Section 2.2, New Applications Granted, so it's a new company.

Searching 192.com and 118118.com for businesses with post code YO25 8DJ yields nothing.

However, put 73 "kelleythorpe industrial" into Google and the first hit is this page which has:

Quote:
Teal's Of Driffield
Unit 73 Kelleythorpe Industrial Estate Kellythorpe, Driffield, North Humberside, YO25 9DJ
Telephone: 01377 272188, Fax: 01377232049
CompanyType : Coach Hire

A further search for teals of driffield reveals that the company's website was at www.teals.co.uk. A cached version is available from Google here and gives the number 01377 270463.

The second link is on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's website here:

Quote:
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been informed that regretfully, Teals of Driffield will cease trading on Monday 20th February 2006.

This link is a list of Notices from VOSA dated September 2005. It says:

Quote:
JOHN PETER TEAL T/A TEALS OF DRIFFIELD, FAIRVIEW, 69 MAIN STREET, CRANSWICK DRIFFIELD, EAST YORKSHIRE, YO259QN

This appears to be a home address, so one of those numbers could be for this. I would be inclined to try 01377 272188 first, in the hope that it goes to the Kelleythorpe address, and that the number hasn't been changed.

There seems to be some kind of "witch hunt" taking place regarding Phoenix Travel.  Some of your correspondents have made what I consider to be defamatory and untrue statements regarding my business.

I operate two coaches from Unit 73, Kelleythorpe Industrial Estate, Driffield.  This is also the operating centre for Ruralbus Ltd (two coaches), and several haulage companies.  I take exception to any suggestion that there is any connection between my business and any other (Teals of Driffield Ltd ceased trading Feb 2006, and Frodingham Coaches Ltd was sold to EYMS November 2001).

I am the PCV Licence Holder, and Phoenix Travel is my trading name.  My vehicles are maintained to the high standards required by VOSA.  My telephone number is listed in the local telephone directories under "Coach Hire" - which is where my potential customers would expect to find it.

"My telephone number is listed in the local telephone directories under "Coach Hire" - which is where my potential customers would expect to find it"

SO WHY NOT OFFER THE PROPER NUMBER HERE FOR FREE ADVERTISING, AND TO SHOW YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONTEMPT PEOPLE HAVE FOR THESE NUMBERS?

Perhaps it is listed locally...It's the same RIP OFF number that we are trying to avoid.

And potential customers are all over, not just local. I have customers who call from Addis Ababa, Austria, Manchester, and towns that would not normally fall within my catchment area. If I had a customer who wanted to arrange a large group to be lifted from a distance, and brought to a local point, I would consider an operator in the vicinity of the collection to do the work for me.

I echo a very nice man's sentiments, in that the telephone number you provide is an 0870 one. Having found this website, perhaps you would like to reconsider abandoning use of, or at least the promotion of, the 0870. If you don't want to do that, would you provide us with the geographical (01377) number for your company so that it can be put into the Say no to 0870 database?

I just love such 'economical with the truth' type comments.

What you really mean is, "My rip-off 0870 number is listed ..... but the small amount of extra income I make from each call thereto means I'm going to continue hiding behind that."

Realistically, there can be no significant reward for Mrs Webster to be using the 0870.
As she says, she operates 2 coaches. In an area where there is a significant operating centre with several firms, we can assume her calls received log would not be too large. And as you don't start getting any rewards from these rip off telcos until a significant amount of calls have been received, I think we can safely say MrsWebster will not qualify on a regular basis.
Admittedly the telco has probably provided her the number for free, but then so does BT, NTL whoever. And line rental etc still has to be paid, so why not just settle for the number that ultimately the calls are diverted to if you want to do it for little expense?

I use several numbers, that way the client can make up their own mind to choose the least cost route for their circumstance.
Mobile - so they can call from their mobiles using inclusive minutes. (free from mobiles)
0800 - this diverts to the landline  (free from land line)
An 020 landline, which gets diverted to the mobile.  (free with all inclusive packages, and use of inc mins on mobile)
The only expense is the 0800 at £5 per month, but I get 800 free mins included.

And I only operate 2 vehicles as well.
So it is possible to offer the service at minimum cost.

Since posting her message, Vicky Webster has been looking at these forums on a regular basis. She hasn't posted on here or on any other thread. Perhaps she has made up her mind where she stands on the issue of Phoenix Travel's use of an 0870 telephone number.
